I’ve had a bunch of new flower friends online, at Debbie’s soft serve and at the cart this year and since it’s October, I wanted to again share the story behind Pink Petals flower cart🌸
My best friend, Sommer Kretsinger, had a beautiful flower garden in 2020. She had a dream of having a “U-Pick” flower field in Smithsburg and had really ramped up her cut flower garden that year. In June of 2020 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and on October 10, 2020, she went to heaven. In September of that year, I began drying my weekly armfuls of flowers, hoping there would be viable seeds, Sommer’s seeds. My prayers were answered and I was gifted with thousands of seeds, each one filled with life, hope and memories. Growing Sommers seeds into beautiful flowers has brought me comfort, companionship, and healing in her absence. The past two years, my gardening has blossomed from growing sentimental seeds for my own healing to growing LOTS of flowers in order to spread joy in my community. Pink petals flower cart was dreamt up to honor Sommer’s love of flowers, love for people and her fight against breast cancer. I think she would be proud of what the little cart has become and how much joy has been spread in her name. The little cards that are offered at the cart are Sommers original watercolor paintings, an ongoing extension of her love for those around her. This weekend, 10/10/26, marks 6 years that she’s been gone and in honor of my dear friend, I will be making up primarily pink bouquets for the cart for this Saturday, they will be $25 each🌸
If you are not so much into Pink, I just dropped off purple and peachy bouquets to Debbie’s this morning.
