Small pest. Big problem. 🦟 World Mosquito Day is a reminder that mosquitoes are more than just an annoying part of summer. They can carry and spread disease, including West Nile virus.

🦌 Wisconsin deer are currently being impacted by an outbreak of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD).

According to recent reports, an estimated 80–100 deer have died since July, and we are seeing the effects firsthand here in Southeast Wisconsin. In just the past week, Advanced Wildlife & Pest Control has removed at least a dozen dead deer from local properties.

EHD is a viral disease spread to deer by tiny biting midges. Outbreaks typically occur during late summer and early fall and can cause sudden death in white-tailed deer. The good news is that EHD does not infect humans or pets.

If you find a sick or dead deer on your property, the Wisconsin DNR asks residents to report the sighting so wildlife officials can continue monitoring the extent of the outbreak.

We encourage everyone to read and share the Wisconsin DNR’s information below to help spread awareness.

Around 100 deer have been found dead in Washington County following the start of an EHD outbreak. The outbreak is likely to continue until the first frost of the season.

We shared some of what we’re seeing firsthand after our team recently removed four dead deer from Silver Lake. With EHD impacting deer in our local communities, we’re glad to help bring awareness to what’s happening and share our experience from the field.
