Got a clogged drain? We know it’s tempting to grab a bottle of chemical drain cleaner and hope for the best… but that quick fix can create a much bigger problem. 🧪🪠
Chemical drain cleaners can be extremely harsh. They may damage certain piping and plumbing components, and if they don’t clear the blockage, those chemicals can remain trapped in the drain line.
And guess who gets up close and personal with that drain next? 😬
Your plumber.
When we open a trap, run drain-cleaning equipment, use a cable or flex shaft, or otherwise work on the line, trapped chemicals can splash onto a technician’s skin or into their eyes or expose them to potentially harmful fumes.
⚠️ If you have already used ANY chemical drain cleaner before calling us, PLEASE tell us.
We’re not here to fuss at you. 😂 We just need to know so our technicians can take the proper safety precautions before beginning work.
Better yet, if your drain is slow, clogged, gurgling, or repeatedly backing up, skip the chemicals and call SMJ Plumbing. A blockage is often a symptom of something else going on—grease buildup, roots, scale, foreign material, damaged piping, or another issue that a bottle of chemicals isn’t going to fix.
Sometimes your drain doesn’t need a chemistry experiment.
