How do you become a legend at Howe? There’s no single path to getting there, but everyone who has worked alongside Herb Shadewald has had an example to follow.

For 40 years, Herb has been a part of countless projects, has seen the broad expanse of industry technology, and impacted generations of tradespeople. For nearly half of Howe’s 85-year history, Herb has been a trusted and dedicated member of the Howe team. And there are no signs of him slowing down.

President Justin Howe summed up Herb’s work ethic: “We could throw any kind of challenge at Herb, and it would never faze him; he would always find a way to solve it.”
The world could use more Herbs. Howe has been fortunate to have the one and only. Congratulations on this tremendous milestone!

For 34 years, Ike Schuld has been a valued member of the team at Howe, Inc. As a Senior Foreman, Ike has spent much of his career working on hospital remodels and other construction plumbing projects throughout the region. Originally from Edgerton, Minnesota, he completed his apprenticeship in 1996 and has continued learning throughout his career through AutoCAD courses, specialty training, and countless hands-on experiences.
Outside of work, Ike enjoys restoration projects, home remodeling, and automotive work. He and his wife, Linda, are the proud parents of Stephanie and Jon, and this year Ike celebrated a new milestone: becoming a grandfather for the first time. His grandson, Henry Schuld, was born on January 22.

It couldn’t have been a nicer evening at the Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium, where we hosted our annual Summer Party.
Howe families came together to enjoy a great meal, surprise gift giveaways, and a special giraffe feeding. It was a fun evening filled with good food, great company, and plenty of memories!
Thanks to everyone who helped make it a great night!

The skill and precision of this sprinkler system at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport will, hopefully, never be used and likely never seen. But that’s the point. Andrew and Gavin are setting hangers and running pipe on the level below the terminal for fire protection, work that will be hidden behind a hard lid ceiling once installed. Although this system will largely be concealed, we’re highlighting their craftsmanship today. Thank you, Andrew and Gavin, for your skills and attention to detail.

Installing and servicing HVAC equipment can take you places most people never see.

Today, Seth was in the crawl space above the historic All Saints Chapel to replace an aging fan coil unit and condensing unit, while Harrison climbed through a stained-glass sanctuary window to find a drain line, then worked four floors up on the rooftop next to the original iconic gazebo to replace a second fan coil unit and condensing unit.
Formerly the All Saints School, Touchmark continues to preserve this landmark and serve as a senior living community today. Howe is honored to be the trusted team helping keep this space comfortable for future generations.

Heating and cooling a room is one thing. Doing it without disturbing a room full of butterflies is another.
At the Butterfly House at the Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium, heating and cooling the space meant more than just comfort. It meant high-volume, low-velocity airflow gentle enough not to disturb the butterflies inside. Our team installed the oversized spiral ductwork engineered for exactly that.
