Ever wonder how butterflies stay comfy in Sioux Falls when it’s -20° outside? 🦋❄️

Our team designed the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems at the Sioux Falls Butterfly House & Aquarium to hold the exact temperature and humidity a tropical exhibit needs, all year long.

It’s one of the projects we highlight in our latest blog, along with the Sioux Falls Regional Airport expansion with Journey Group and The Weitz Company, and the new Light, Power & Traffic Operations Building. Since 1940, we’ve been working behind the walls of the buildings that keep this city growing.

This year, Howe partnered with Lennox to install a brand-new heating and cooling system for Jeff Poppenga and his family in Sioux Falls, free of charge and just in time for winter. The Feel the Love program, created by Lennox, continues to be one of the most rewarding things our team gets to be a part of.

A Sioux Falls man received a new heating and cooling system for free Saturday morning through the annual Lennox “Feel the Love” campaign.

“I got to experience a competition with the PHCC that brought different technicians across South Dakota and the United States together to compete with their HVAC knowledge and experience. I ended up getting 2nd place in nationals after getting 1st in the state competition, and I couldn’t have done it without Howe’s resources. It was a blast, as we got to travel to Birmingham, Alabama, so we got to experience a whole new setting compared to South Dakota. HVAC will stick with me for a lifetime, and I have no regrets with going into the trades!”

Seven and a half years into his career in the HVAC trade, Alex Phrommany has already made his mark on the national stage.
As a Commercial HVAC Service Technician, Alex holds an Associate's Degree in Mechatronics and is NATE certified. His experience and knowledge earned him 1st place in the state PHCC HVAC competition and 2nd place nationally in Birmingham, Alabama.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys gaming, creating music, and working on music production.
We're proud to have Alex on the Howe team and congratulate him on his impressive accomplishments!

There are a couple of familiar faces in this year’s Smoke Show Contest. But the coveted Pig Award has changed hands, from last year’s winner, Cole Kuhnert (right), to Bill Cuny! This year, the brisket and the chili won the votes. Congratulations to both! Thanks to all the participants and thank you for a fantastic lunch!

The forecast calls for rain for the foreseeable future. Don't forget to check the sump pump!
Pour a bucket of water into the pit and watch: the pump should kick on, drain it, and shut off. If it hums without pumping, runs nonstop, or doesn't start at all, call or text 605-339-2020.

For three years, Amanda has been part of the team at Howe, Inc. As an Administrative Assistant, she is often the first voice customers hear when they call, helping connect them with the right person while keeping a long list of office duties running smoothly behind the scenes.
Originally from Rockford, Illinois, Amanda studied journalism at South Dakota State University before bringing those skills into the trades.
Outside of work, life is full. She and her husband, Josh, have a blended family. Much of her free time is spent with family and keeping up with her daughter Stella's activities. She also enjoys scrapbooking, gardening, and a good true-crime story.
