Southern California Pool & Spa Owners - Don't Let This Be You This Winter! 🥶
While our winters are mild, neglecting your pool or spa during the cooler months can lead to some serious (and costly!) headaches when spring rolls around. Here's what can happen if you don't take care of them:
Algae Bloom Central: Cooler temperatures and less swimming mean less circulation and filtration. Combine that with fallen leaves and debris, and you've got the perfect breeding ground for stubborn algae. Green pools aren't just unsightly, they're a pain to clean!
Equipment Damage: Pumps, filters, and heaters can suffer if not properly maintained. Skimmer baskets overflowing with leaves can block water flow, causing your pump to work harder and potentially burn out. Freezing (rare, but possible in some areas!) can crack pipes and damage equipment if not winterized correctly.
Stains and Discoloration: Organic matter from trees and even minerals in stagnant water can lead to unsightly stains on your pool's surface that are tough to remove later.
Mosquito Breeding Ground: Uncirculated, green water is an open invitation for mosquitoes, turning your backyard into a public health nuisance.
Expensive Spring Cleanup: What you save in "not running the pump" during winter, you'll likely spend double (or triple!) in chemicals, extra cleaning, and potential repairs when you try to get it ready for swim season.
Don't let your beautiful backyard oasis become a winter nightmare! A little bit of consistent maintenance (even just checking chemicals and skimming regularly) can save you a lot of time, money, and frustration in the long run.
