Sycamore Build Group is proud to showcase the complete restoration of this 1905 historic Cape Charles, VA beach home, a 5,500 sq ft full interior and exterior renovation.

What began in 2023 as a simple porch repair evolved into a total historic reconstruction of the property. The project ultimately required rebuilding the home from the inside out while preserving its historic character.

Major work completed:
• Full structural rehabilitation
• Installation of 53 new historically styled windows
• 28-foot structural headers installed to open and modernize the kitchen
• Complete interior rebuild
• Custom interior millwork and trim throughout
• Custom-milled exterior siding
• Full exterior restoration and paint
• New wraparound porches with restored historic details
• Rebuilt porch columns and railings
• Restoration of historic rooflines, dormers, and architectural features
• Reconstruction of multiple porch systems and balcony spaces
• Full exterior carpentry restoration preserving the original 1905 design language

This project required extensive historic carpentry, structural engineering, and custom fabrication to bring the house back to life while keeping its period-correct appearance.

The result is a fully rebuilt historic home that will stand for another century.

Another Sycamore Build Group transformation — full basement bathroom renovation from the ground up.

This project started as raw block, concrete and exposed utilities, with structural adjustments, new plumbing lines, and underground waste replacements. We opened the slab, corrected old cast-iron, reran PVC, and rebuilt a proper foundation for the new layout.

From there, we reframed the entire space, insulated, updated electrical, and built custom soffits around HVAC and ductwork to maximize ceiling height. Once rough-ins passed, we closed everything up and shifted into finishes.

The final result:
✨ Custom emerald-green subway tile shower with brass trim accents
✨ Built-in dual niches wrapped in gold edge detailing
✨ Deep shower bench finished in sleek white quartz
✨ Premium brass shower system with handheld and halo head
✨ Vintage-inspired hex tile floor with black flower pattern
✨ Modern smart toilet for a luxury feel
✨ Solid wood vanity with geometric grain pattern and brass hardware
✨ Crisp, clean walls, new lighting, and a completely new window opening trimmed into the tile

Today, as I worked on a house damaged by fire, I was reminded of the fragility of what we often take for granted. The fire happened just a day before Thanksgiving, a time when most of us are busy preparing for a day of family, gratitude, and abundance. In the chaos of the remains and smoke-stained walls, there was one surprising detail: their Thanksgiving dinner food, tucked behind a door, had somehow been spared.

It struck me how small moments of preservation can feel like miracles in the midst of loss. While many of us are fortunate to have homes and loved ones to gather with this holiday season, not everyone is as lucky. This family’s experience reminded me that gratitude isn’t just about the big things—it’s about recognizing the small mercies that persist even when life feels upended.

As I reflect on this day, I’m deeply thankful for the people in my life, the roof over my head, and the work that allows me to help others in moments of need. This Thanksgiving, I encourage everyone to pause and appreciate what they have, no matter how modest. Let’s also hold space in our hearts for those who are facing hardship, and wherever possible, extend a helping hand.

What is your why and what’s your purpose?

These questions are what sets us aside when designing and renovating safe spaces for our clients to get a better feel for creating.

This family moved from the hustle and bustle of DC to raise their family nestled in a Cul-De-Sac in Bethesda.

Their purpose is to raise their family and create this space for formal and everyday dining with this new elegant kitchen.

With my 23 years experience as a 5th generation carpenter I work with a few select clients a year on these type of projects.
