The Board of Commissioners of the Town of Pittsboro held a regular meeting on Monday, January 8th, 2024, at the Chatham County Agriculture and Conference Center. The Board took the following actions during the meeting:

Highlights:
• The Board formally adopted the 2024-2027 Strategic Plan for the Town of Pittsboro. The plan is designed to help the Board, Manager, and staff prioritize efforts, allocate resources, and serve as a guiding principle for the Town's activities.
• The Board received a presentation detailing the Town's annual audit results from Sharpe Patel CPA. Jacob Allen, the firm's Senior Audit Manager, said, "I have nothing but positive things to say about the Town, financially," and reported that Pittsboro is one of the healthier towns that the firm works with.
• The Board took additional steps towards supporting affordable housing in Pittsboro by amending the ordinance controlling how the Town charges multi-family developments for water and sewer services.

Additional Items:
• The Mayor proclaimed January 15 as 'Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.'
• The Board received an update from Assistant Town Manager Kent Jackson on various Town activities.
• The Board appointed Brian Finnegan to a three-year term as an ETJ member on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. It also reappointed Alfreda Alston (In-Town) and Charity Mize (ETJ) to three-year terms as members of the Planning Board.
• The Board formally assigned members to various liaison positions with other groups.
• The Board approved a voluntary annexation request for property at 45 The Whites Way, Pittsboro.
• The Board approved an updated Travel Policy.
• The Board held a closed session.
• The Board approved minutes from several past meetings.

Town Announces Hiring of Jonathan Franklin as Town Manager; Begins May 1st

PITTSBORO, NC - The Board of Commissioners for the Town of Pittsboro is proud to announce the selection of Mr. Jonathan Franklin as the Town’s next Town Manager. Mr. Franklin was selected following a seven-month process from a pool of highly qualified candidates. The Board ultimately selected Mr. Franklin based on his knowledge, skills, ability to fulfill the position’s duties, personality, and leadership style.

Mr. Franklin currently serves as the City Manager for the City of Newton, NC. Before his time in Newton, he served as the Town Administrator for Louisburg, NC, overseeing a $15 million budget and all Town operations with over 90 employees and as Town Manager in Maysville, NC. He is an Appalachian State University graduate with a Master of Public Administration degree with a concentration in Town, City, and County Management. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Mount Olive and a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Political Science and History from East Carolina University.

Mayor Cindy Perry said, “Mr. Franklin has served the communities of Newton, Louisburg, and Maysville with distinction and brings those experiences and talent to us. His expertise with utility infrastructure is key to our future.”

The mayor continued, “The Board and I welcome him, his family, and his keen interest in helping Pittsboro address growth. We have a shared vision to remain a vibrant and welcoming community.”

Mr. Franklin’s employment with the Town will begin on May 1st, 2023.
