True or False: Safety Slows a Project Down
False: Safety is a critical and complex part of every construction project. It is woven into the fabric of daily life on the job site.

Taking the time to plan for and implement safety protocols, and all of the elements involved in safety, actually supports productivity by reducing disruption, incidents, downtime and uncertainty.

Preventing Su***des in Construction
Straight talk: Construction has one of the highest su***de rates of any major industry. Long hours, demanding work, time away from family and a culture that can discourage people from asking for help may all contribute. We can help save lives by creating a culture where it is okay not to be okay—and where speaking up is a sign of strength. Open conversations, peer support, training, and access to trusted resources can make a meaningful difference.

Construction is about hardworking, dedicated people who take pride in their work. They arrive early, stay late, solve problems and remain focused through demanding and exhausting days—all to build structures that will last.

It takes many people to get the job done: project managers and superintendents, dedicated team members behind the scenes, architects and engineers, skilled tradespeople and trusted subcontracting partners.

Construction is about more than wood, brick and mortar. It is about the lasting impact made by real people who improve their communities every day through hard work that stands the test of time.

During National Construction Appreciation Week, we thank everyone whose talent, commitment and craftsmanship help build a better future.

Students have returned this week and Donlar has set their tools down for the week to let students settle into classes. We will be back up top next week moving toward completion.

From where we’re standing, it’s shaping up to be a great year!
Wishing students, teachers, and staff a safe and successful school year.

TRUE or FALSE: Hard Hats Don't Expire

FALSE: Though built to be tough, hard hats do expire.

Manufacturers recommend replacing them at least every five years, or sooner, depending upon use and exposure. Sunlight, heat, chemicals and rough treatment can weaken the materials and reduce their ability to protect from impact and even certain levels of electrical exposure. Safety Tip: Inspect your hard hat before each use for cracks, dents, brittleness or other signs of damage. When in doubt, change it out.

Building a strong construction industry starts with finding, developing, and retaining great people. Donlar supports MBEX and opportunities like the Construction Talent Acquisition Conference that help strengthen our workforce for the future.

Ask any contractor what keeps them up at night, and we bet "skilled labor," "needing to hire," and "we could have used 3 more folks on that job today" are a few thoughts circling the top of the list.

Companies are competing harder for the same shrinking pool of skilled workers, and the strategies that may have worked five years ago are just not cutting it anymore.

Project Build Minnesota is addressing this industry hurdle directly with their Construction Talent Acquisition Conference on September 2.

Held at the The Builders Group in Eagan, it's a full day dedicated to the work of finding and keeping good people on your crews, including hiring strategies, retention tools, and honest conversations among peers.

MBEX is proud to be a sponsor of this event, and if your hiring strategy needs a reset, this is a great place to start.
