During our recent re-roofing project for the Screened in deck, our team uncovered several hidden issues while working on the deck screen. We discovered live electrical wires exposed in rotted areas, and roughly 90% of the decking was completely soft and compromised due to water damage from improperly installed shingles. When installing concrete peers for a deck, you must extend them 4 inches above the ground to keep the wooden post out of standing water and prevent premature rotting.
What I have seen in the past few months ground post contact and improper beams installed rotting.
