Did you know that we have native hibiscus on Shelter Island?

Hibiscus moscheutos, also known as swamp mallow, is a perennial with pink and white flowers that often have a beautiful deep red center.

To produce the most flowers, these hibiscus thrive in full sun, but they can handle a little bit of afternoon shade. When it comes to watering, these hardy perennials are often thirsty, so they flourish in moist to wet soil.
