A year ago, we started this project with a homeowner who had a big vision for their backyard. Then we found something underneath it all: a problem with their septic system.

Not the kind of surprise anyone wants. But building over a problem doesn’t fix it. So we paused, helped our customer get the septic issue sorted the right way, and made sure the ground was ready for what’s going on top of it.

It’s resolved now. The wait is over, and install is about to begin.

This is what we do at Louvered Outdoor. We guide you through the hard parts so you end up with an outdoor space built to last. Sometimes that means slowing down first so the finished project is done right.

Stay tuned. The best part is coming.

Fall hosting, minus the weather forecast. 🍂

Warm lights. Cozy blankets. A roof that opens to the stars or closes before the rain crashes the party.

Freestanding or attached? Here’s how to choose.

An attached pergola ties into your house. A freestanding pergola stands on its own four posts, so nothing gets fastened to your brick, siding, or roofline. You can place it wherever the yard works best, not just where the wall is.

This solid roof pergola is freestanding, and it still feels like part of the home. Fan overhead, LED lighting along the roof, a fire table in the middle, and a spot to sit through a cool October night, rain or shine.

Not sure which fits your backyard? We’ll walk through both options with you and show you what works for your space.

Come see our pergola systems at the Shelbyville Design Center, 570 Gordon Lane, Shelbyville, KY 40065. We design and install freestanding pergolas and outdoor living spaces for homeowners in Louisville, Lexington, Northern Kentucky, and beyond.

Some backyards have a pool. This one now has a place to actually use it.

We finished this poolside outdoor living space today, and everything in it works together. A solid roof pergola covers the kitchen, bar seating and lounge area, so there’s real shade in July and dry seating when it rains. Lights run along the beams, so the night doesn’t end when the sun goes down.

Cooking, swimming, hanging out and keeping an eye on the kids all happen in one spot now.

If your yard has a great view and nowhere to enjoy it, that’s the problem we solve. We handle the design, the planning and the build, so you get a finished space instead of a project to manage.

The best nights happen right here, around this table.

Summer brought pool days and late dinners under the lights. Now the evenings are cooler, the leaves are starting to turn, and the family is still outside: grilling in the outdoor kitchen and lingering long after the sun goes down.

With screens on the way, this space will change with the seasons, so the dinners, the laughter, and the time together never have to move indoors.

Who says patio season ends in October? 🍂

With the right additions, your outdoor space can work for you well into fall and winter. Here are four ways to get more months out of your patio:

🔲 Retractable screens. Block wind, bugs, and low-angle sun with motorized screens that drop down at the push of a button and disappear when you don’t need them.

🚪 Glass sliding doors. Enclose your pergola for a sunroom feel while keeping the view. Open them up on warm days, close them when the temperature drops.

🔥 Infrared heaters. Mounted overhead, they warm people and furniture instead of the air, so they work even when the breeze picks up.

🪵 Fireplaces and fire features. The gathering spot everyone ends up around. Add warmth, light, and the kind of ambiance that keeps guests outside all evening.
Pair any of these with a louvered pergola and you’ve got an outdoor room you can use nearly year-round.

Most screens ask you to choose. Bugs or breeze. Privacy or view. Sun protection or fresh air.

Ours don’t.

Each motorized screen operates independently, so you can close the west side against afternoon glare while leaving the rest open, or bring all four down at once with a single command. Built to handle light rain too, so a passing shower doesn’t mean scrambling to protect your furniture or cutting the evening short.

It’s engineering built around how people actually use their outdoor space. Precise, weather ready, and controlled with one touch.

Come see the system up close at our Shelbyville Design Center, 570 Gordon Lane. We’ll walk you through exactly how the controls and screens work together.
