Back in 2014, I started putting together a plan to start my business. I had several key reasons as to why I wanted to do this...
We all have our own aspirations, motives and reasons. Ultimately, we have our “why” and over time, that “why” can certainly change.
Running a successful business is by no means an easy task. I have learned so many things that I never imagined I’d have to think about, much less figure out on my own.
Depending on the day, “the thing that I’ve learned that has helped me the most” changes... I think any business owner could speak on that.
Days like Friday when our crew took the time to go to Burns Middle School for career day, is when it comes full circle.
Of all the things I have learned since starting my business, the biggest component is impacting people. A business takes people... a team. We can buy all the equipment in the world, we can win all the jobs we bid, we can buy shirts and hats, BUT people are the answer. People are the biggest asset to a business. The hires made can be your best and worst decisions. I cannot achieve what I have set out to do as a business owner if I do not have people in my corner giving their best every single day. I truly believe I have the best crew. I’m proud that this group of men represented Botts Grading at career day to play a small part in impacting a potential future generation of students who want to be involved in the dirt world.
It’s an honor to try to give back to the same community that helped build, shape and mold me. I can’t express how much joy it brings me personally, for the company to be able to participate in events like this... to be able to speak to teachers and administrators who were there when I came through. In my opinion, it’s an obligation and a show of gratitude to shake those hands and talk to those folks. Big or small, good or bad, everyone in your life plays a role in who you become. I’m thankful that I had people to impact me and guide me to where I am now. I couldn’t have made it this far without them. My greatest hope is that I can do the same for others.
