QUESTION?: Is Expanding Foam of any kind an accepted material to use for keeping wildlife out?
ANSWER!: No, absolutely not, not ever, not for any reason whatsoever. Foam actually encourages chewing and scratching. Here’s why…. If you seal an area that has been getting used by wildlife. There are pheromones that indicate that ā€œthis is an okay area to enter.ā€ once that trail is picked up on by new wildlife they will feel the material, know that it is soft and weak and immediately get to work. That is what happened in these pictures below. You can actually see the foam is rounded out from wild life entering over and over through this area.
SOLUTION: Yep!…… We have one, we actually install a product that is impenetrable with a warranty and is installed at the opening and goes underground to prevent digging around or under it.

Unwanted Guests: Starlings

That bird coming out of this woodpecker hole isn’t supposed to be there. It’s a European Starling—one of the most aggressive invasive birds in our area.

Starlings were introduced to the U.S. in the late 1800s by a group that wanted to bring over every bird mentioned in the works of William Shakespeare. What started as a small release in New York has turned into a nationwide population.

They’ve since taken over nesting sites meant for native birds like woodpeckers, bluebirds, and swallows. They don’t create these holes… they move in and take them over.

On homes, they’re more than just noisy:
• They pack cavities with nesting material, trapping moisture and creating odor issues
• Their droppings can carry bacteria and fungal spores, including those linked to respiratory illnesses like Histoplasmosis
• Waste buildup around entry points can create unhealthy conditions for homeowners

Once they move in, they tend to return year after year if the entry isn’t properly sealed.

We don’t just remove them—we fix the reason they got in.

Two things went wrong on this DIY repair
1. They tried to block the opening during baby season. Bad Idea
2. They used aluminum as a blocking material. As you can see that is easy for squirrels to chew through.
