I’d been in this yard before. This time was different. The elderly wife had died and her daughter was showing me around as they prepared the house to sell. The air was so heavy, her face was full of emotion as we spoke. We wrapped up and I spoke to her father about what I was going to do in the area, and the heaviness doubled. With tears in my eyes I walked back to my truck, grabbed two cards from my old beat up truck and handed them out. I’ve never thought a football coach shouldn’t pray, or a teacher, or a police man, but if this landscaper can then I’d say we still live in the greatest country in the world. She texted me about 5 mins after leaving thanking me for the card and the kind words. Who you work with matters, but who you work for matters most.

She managed to keep her hands at 10 and 2 more than once this weekend. We took the trip down to the Little Grand Canyon and then the long way back through Columbus stopping at Country’s bbq and their iconic ol bus. She’s got me like she’s got life, with both hands.
