If you aren’t operating on an automatic transfer switch operated generator system, and you dont have the forced reminder of a manual interlock, it is imperative that you turn off your main disconnect between your load center and your meter before you fire up your portable generator. Generators should only be plugged into listed outdoor inlet boxes that have been installed specifically for that purpose. This is for the protection of you and our hardworking linemen!
