Kind of a long post, bare with me.
Mr. Woods gave me a call wanting a carport built early spring before bad weather moved in. Texas Panhandle weather can get crazy at times. Gave him a bid, he said get it done before it storms. Mind you he’s an older gentleman later 80’s. Got material gathered up moved out his way and got started. He was out there watching every move we made (does not bother me) then he started giving his life story. That’s where things changed… He was rambling along I swear without taking a breath and I was just taking everything he was saying to heart. Was explaining where he’d been and how he grew up, his tours in the wars, and how he’d always wanted a good carport living where he did. I’m one who enjoys listening to the older generation talk. I just turned 33 on the 10th and it just amazes me how tough and strong willed they are. Got the carport built and he was explaining that his social security check would be mailed in a couple days. Wasn’t none of my business but he was telling me anyway. I went home that night and took his bill and essentially cut it in half (wish I could’ve just done it for free.) Covered the material and some time. He couldn’t believe it, and was proud of what we’d done. All I could say was thank you for your service and hope you enjoy your carport. To many times in life we get so dead set on making money we forget everyone is human. I’m not making this post to brag, but if it encourages one other welding company to pay it forward in any way they can then I’d say I did what my post was intended to do. The world is filled with to much hate, and sure I could’ve used the extra money but I wanted him to know he was appreciated. Hope everyone has a good weekend!! Be kind!
