So... I got a call from a technician friend who told me about a ruptured flex line under a trailer. He described the meter as "all the dials were visibly turning. the lowest denomination of those dials is in the thousands of cubic feet. which means thousands of cubic feet were flowing per minute
Now most of the time, gas pressure after the meter is kept a meager 3 1/2 inches of water column (it takes 28 inches of water column to equal a single psi).
This was crazy enough that I took real interest into how this could actually happen.
About a decade ago, a lot of services went to a high pressure line before the meter (this is so they could keep up with the demand from their customers)
I told him to have the gas company come out and inspect the meter.
As it turns out, the regulator on the meter had blown out and it was letting raw pressure through. This resulted in the ruptured gas line, and also (probably caused) any other gas appliance with a regulator to fail as well. At least, I would never trust it after something like that.
He got the family out of that house and probably saved their lives. I am happy to have put him on the path to be the hero for that family.

There are new refrigerators out there that use isobutane(R600a) and propane(R290) as refrigerants. These gasses can explode if released into the atmosphere and find an ignition source (stove, loose wire, cigarette, etc.) Please do not have these in your home.
If you have one, look for the manufacturers label to see which it has. If you need it worked on, be sure the technician is trained to work on this type of equipment.

I am mad (but some of you knew that)😉
Seriously, I am really mad at this situation.
I went to a customer (and friends house) to look at his air conditioner and heat pump since it wasn't working. He had recently had it worked on (by a company that is well known, so will remain nameless).
I found that the common wire for the power to the heat pump outside had been disconnected and taped off. This technician then proceeded to tell the customer that the unit was in need of being replaced.
THIS WAS DISHONEST IN THE EXTREME!
It may have been that it would be in the customers best interest to replace the system, BUT THIS IS NOT THE TECHNICIANS CALL! This is the decision best left to the customer.
If you have had any well known local company come out to look at your heating and cooling system, and for some reason it no longer works, and you suspect foul play, text me at 812-569-0373. Or call, but there may be a lot of victoms, so texting might be better.
And if you are the technician that did this? Oh Yeah, You call me, I would love to have a few words with you. 😠
