SEPTEMBER STORMS THAT SHAPED TEXAS
September 10 marks the historical peak of Atlantic hurricane season—and Texas history shows why.

We remember the lives, homes and communities lost—and the Texans who rebuilt what the storms left behind.

❗9/08/1900 — The Great Galveston Hurricane - at least 8,000 lives lost; storm tides reached up to 15 feet.
❗9/14/1919 — The Corpus Christi Hurricane - a 16-foot storm surge—the highest ever recorded in the Corpus Christi area.
❗9/11/1961 — Hurricane Carla - 150 mph winds; a 22-foot storm surge; 1,915 Texas homes destroyed.
❗9/24/2005 — Hurricane Rita - An 8-to-10-foot storm surge caused extensive damage across Southeast Texas.
❗9/13/2008 — Hurricane Ike - 109 mph winds in Galveston; storm surge exceeded 17 feet on Bolivar Peninsula.
❗9/17/2019 — Tropical Storm Imelda - 44.29 inches of rain near Fannett—including 31 inches in just 12 hours.

FROM THE ROOFING ARCHIVES | SEPTEMBER 1, 2019
Seven years ago today, - NEW TEXAS LAW took effect - making one thing clear:
A roofing contractor cannot waive, absorb or rebate your insurance deductible.

WHO REALLY PAYS FOR A “FREE ROOF”?
Your deductible doesn’t magically disappear.

According to the Texas Department of Insurance, a contractor who claims to “cover” it may inflate the amount reported to your insurance company, disguise it as a rebate or cut costs somewhere else in the job.

That can mean inferior materials, missing work or fraudulent information submitted with your claim. There is no such thing as a free deductible. There is only a cost you may not see until later.

Learn more from the Texas Department of Insurance:

No. A deductible is part of your home insurance policy. It’s illegal for contractors to waive your deductible or help you avoid paying it.

Nine years ago today, Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport as a Category 4 storm.

With 130 mph winds and more than 51 inches of rain recorded in one Texas location, Harvey devastated communities, displaced families and left an enormous rebuilding effort behind.

For the roofing and construction industry, it remains a sobering reminder of the responsibility that comes with helping families rebuild—especially when they are most vulnerable.

Today, we’re grateful for quiet skies across Texas. We remember those who lost loved ones, homes and entire communities to the storm.
