Yates would be the number one tree I would plant for Pennsylvania's r***e season. Our r***e season runs from late November into early December.

These trees are planted on low ground, and their blossoms survived the spring freeze, leaving them with a respectable fruit crop. These trees have been in the ground for 2½ years. In my 10 years of having this "grafted" variety at an age where it is fruit-bearing, I have never seen a year when they didn't hang with fruit.

To understand what I mean by "grafted," notice how each tree in the video looks the same. That's because they are the same. We take wood from these trees, and each bud grows into a tree genetically identical to the original.

Let's say you like to r***e hunt in Pennsylvania, or you simply want a lot of deer in one location during the time I'm talking about. You could stack this tree and add some pollinators dropping during the same period, and you could have a crazy attraction happening on your property during that specific time.

Those drop times would also correlate well to northern Ohio, northern Indiana, northern Illinois, and central Iowa. Jump farther north, and you'll push the drop time a little later the farther you go.

Go south into Kentucky, northern Tennessee, southern Illinois, central to southern Missouri, and into Kansas, and you're moving that drop time back into late October and November.

Obviously, these couple of Road Kill Crabs that Mike planted down in southeastern PA have some serious vigor to them!

These trees shipped just a few months ago in early to mid-April, pruned back to about 5½ feet for shipping. Most of our two-year-old trees are 6–7 feet tall before we prune them back to ship them safely to you.

I really love the location Mike picked for these. What I like about planting a grafted tree is that I know what I'm putting in the ground. I'm not guessing what the fruit will be or what the tree will turn into. I've watched the original Road Kill Crab™ for years, so I have a pretty good idea what these trees will look like as they mature, and I included a pic of that in this post.

Mike is well on his way to having the kind of fruit load you see on the mature tree in the picture. When you see this kind of growth in just a few months, you can start to imagine what these trees are going to do as they get bigger. These trees have gone from freshly planted to pushing over 10 feet in just a few months. That's some serious growth in a short amount of time.

The picture of them freshly planted really shows just how much they've taken off.

I can't wait to see these things when they're mature and loaded with crab! And that is not going to take too long!

ApexCrab™ is one of the cleanest crabs from fruit to leaves you will ever plant! The bonus is that the fruit doesn't start falling here until the beginning of November! The fruit production is outstanding, and one of those trees that everyone I have put in the ground has fruited the year I planted it.

This crab shines when moving it south into the lower Midwest when looking for that perfect October November drop! I have had this crab for many years now, and it is one I am definitely excited to finally release.

ApexCrab™ combines exceptional disease resistance with heavy annual fruit production, making it an outstanding choice for wildlife plantings.
