Some kitchen tools don't need batteries, buttons, or a manual, and this little cherry chicken press is one of them. It just does its job. Period.

If you've never used one, it helps tenderize chicken so marinades can pe*****te better and cooking is more even.

One of the things I've always enjoyed is finding wood with a story, and this time the wood found me.

This whiskey topper is made from deck wood from the Battleship Texas, giving a small piece of history a new purpose.

There are only a few Battleship Texas toppers left.

There are a lot of little steps that go into making a board.

This is one of them. It may not be the part anybody notices when the board is finished, but getting those little details right is part of making the whole thing right.

Some pieces don't have to be big to be useful.

This little cherry bowl is a good size for snacks, candy, nuts, or whatever else you decide to put in it.

I'll bet all you see is a pile of wood slabs.

I see bowls, boards, wine stoppers, and a lot of other possibilities.

Since every piece is different, the trick is matching the right piece of wood to the right project.

A charcuterie board has one job... bring people together.

Whether it's meats, cheeses, fruit, crackers, or whatever else you enjoy sharing with family and friends, it's made to be used.

This one is made from American elm and I really like the movement in the grain on this one.

This is where a board really starts showing what it's gonna look like.

After all the cutting, glue-ups, sanding, and shaping, the finish is what makes the grain and color come alive.

There's still a little work left before it's finished, but this is where what I had pictured in my head shows up in the board.

This veggie / charcuterie board is available now.

Use it for cutting up vegetables, prepping supper, or whatever else you’ve got going on in the kitchen.

And when you’re done, it’s pretty enough to use for serving or just leave out on the counter.

Here I am looking through the wood stack for the right board.

Most of this wood came from downed trees that were milled into lumber, air dried, and stacked. Sometimes I sort of know what I’m looking for. Sometimes I don’t know until I start moving boards around.

Either way, the right board usually says, “Here I am.”
