→ Totally relaxed, often with a sleepy face

IT’S HOW THEY BEAT THE HEAT:
Pure survival smarts.
→ Squirrels can’t sweat much, so they dump heat through contact
→ They press their belly to cool, shaded ground, pavement, or branches
→ Heat flows from their body into the cooler surface

If a colony of bats is living in your attic right now, there's a window when they can't be removed — and it runs roughly mid-April through mid-August in most states with significant bat populations.

Female bats give birth and raise flightless pups in building roosts during this period. The pups can't fly for about five weeks. Sealing the entrance while pups are inside separates them from the colony.

🌿 The legal method is a one-way exclusion device — installed after maternity season ends. It lets bats exit but not re-enter. Once the colony has left, the opening is sealed permanently.

🐾 What to know:

- Scratching in walls or attic at dusk may be a bat colony, not mice
- Professional bat exclusion services know the legal timing for each state
- The colony eats thousands of insects per night — they're working while they're roosting
- The exclusion window reopens in most states after mid-August
- A single colony in a bat box nearby can keep them close and out of the attic
