🌳World Landscape Architecture Month Week 5: Action Through Leadership⭐

As World Landscape Architecture Month comes to a close, we’re reminded of our responsibility as landscape architects. Our work shapes the health, safety, and well-being of communities and ecosystems for generations, guided by our expertise in ecology, design, plant systems, and the human experience of place.

Health
Our work supports both human and environmental health. Access to green space encourages movement, social connection, and overall well-being, while reducing stress and improving cognitive function. At the same time, strategies like planting design and green infrastructure strengthen climate resilience, improve air quality, and reduce urban heat.

Safety
Thoughtful design promotes safe movement and interaction among pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. We also help create environments that deter crime and reduce risk, while addressing hazards such as flooding, coastal surges, and extreme heat.

Welfare
Our impact on welfare is far-reaching, supporting social connection, equity, and access to outdoor spaces, physical comfort, economic vitality, and environmental stewardship. At its core, our work strengthens the relationship between people and the natural world.

Landscape architecture is about more than design; it’s about leading the charge in shaping healthier, safer, and more resilient communities.

🌳 World Landscape Architecture Month | Week 5: Action Through Leadership ⭐

Leadership in action looks like taking a client’s vision and guiding it through every phase: from schematic design to construction administration.

For this residential project, the client sought a sleek, modern landscape to complement their midcentury home. As Project Manager, Alyse Wright, PLA, ASLA, led the process through collaborative design, clear communication, and thoughtful ex*****on.

The entry was reimagined with custom floating stairs, a new driveway, and concealed utility elements for a cleaner arrival experience. In the backyard, we transformed the space into a functional outdoor retreat with a custom patio, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, built-in seating, and improved circulation throughout.

Each before-and-after image highlights a specific portion of the site, showing how targeted design interventions improved function, flow, and overall experience, from the front approach to the backyard living spaces.

Swipe through to see how each area of the landscape was transformed. 📸

🌳World Landscape Architecture Month Week 4: Action Through Impact⭐

Everyday life is better when… people have access to affordable, fresh, healthy food!

We’re excited to be partnering with the City of Commerce City, CO to bring a new community garden to life in an existing park—creating a space for connection, learning, and shared resources.

📸 Photo 1 – Concept Plan
The design strengthens the community. From picnic tables to a produce share box, a Free Little Library, and educational signage, the space is designed to bring people together.

📸 Photo 2 – Site Selection Maps
Using GIS analysis, we selected a location for the garden that is accessible to as many people as possible, and within an existing “food desert”.

📸 Photos 3 & 4 – Community Engagement
This project was shaped by the community. Through two rounds of meetings, we gathered valuable input to guide both the site selection and final design.

More than a garden- it’s a place to grow community 🌿

🌳World Landscape Architecture Month Week 4: Action Through Impact⭐

IOOF Park in downtown Gunnison, CO, has been transformed from an underutilized pocket park into a vibrant community hub. 🌿

Designed through a community-driven process, the updated space features a central lawn, an interactive water feature, a climbing boulder, a fire pit, and flexible seating areas, creating a place that adapts to everyday use and special events alike.

Today, IOOF Park is a go-to gathering space for farmers’ markets, public events, and casual meetups, bringing new energy to the heart of the community.

🌳 World Landscape Architecture Month – Week 3: Action Through Learning ⭐

People enter landscape architecture for many reasons—creativity, sustainability, and a passion for outdoor spaces. Landscape Architect Trent Grantham found his path after changing majors, looking for a creative field still connected to architecture.

"One thing I’ve learned: there are many career paths in this profession, each offering a unique perspective. While demand is strong, we must continually demonstrate our value by balancing project needs with client expectations. Every project is a chance to learn. People experience landscapes differently, often seeing the beauty but not always the intent behind the design. Mentorship has been key in my journey. I chose this field to design meaningful outdoor spaces that enhance natural systems and how people connect with them."

🌳World Landscape Architecture Month Week 2: Action Through Practice⭐

Big things are taking shape in the heart of Crested Butte! We’re excited to help reimagine Crank’s Plaza and its surrounding landscape, an important connection between Town Hall, the Marshal’s Office, the Library, and the 4-way.

Our vision is to create a cohesive civic space that brings people together. Through thoughtful design focused on accessibility, movement, and activation, we’re enhancing connections for pedestrians and cyclists while unifying key community spaces into one welcoming, vibrant hub.

This project is all about creating a place where the community can gather, connect, and thrive. 🌿

Today marks the Spring Equinox: the moment when day and night are perfectly balanced.
In the Pacific Northwest, it also signals the beginning of the garden’s awakening. Soil warms, pollinators return, and the landscape prepares for a season of growth.

Wishing you a beautiful start to spring. 🌿
