Have you noticed a few things blooming right now when they’re not supposed to? These two rhodies caught me by surprise! R. ‘Else Frye’ is wonderfully full and fragrant and this Vireya species R. alborugosum I got for the striking leaves, but the bloom is sweetly scented and lovely as well! Vireya types have been known to flower any time of year if conditions are right!

About to go to bed, taking in a most captivating and memorable scent coming from the hardy white gloxinia (Sinningia tubiflora) and, just opened today, the delicate, star-shaped tubular flowers of night-blooming Jasmine, Dama de Noche (Cestrum nocturnum)

it really is remarkable how a small cluster of flowers consent an entire room

Gathering the last bit of summer at work. I had some leftover seed of sweet peas that I sowed have been cranking out some very late blooms and I’ve always loved pairing it with a sumptuous English rose. No wedding florals on my calendar this summer and I kind of miss creating something for a bride.

Rushed through the trade show at this year’s Farwest Show since I had to run some work errands and also I was part of another conference happening at the same time. It’s an opportunity to see new plants and products, reconnect with industry friends and colleagues and just see what catches my eye.

A “new” Fatsia polycarpa selection called High Five(R) ‘Green Fingers’

A nice Cercis sampler

A new vendor who happens to be from the Philippines offering unusual tropicals for collectors Plantophilia.ca

And voted the best new plant is a handsome oak hybrid from Heritage Seedlings & Liners

As always, a fun and creative display from Wholesale Grower !

It was one of those days that I really had to turn things around and look at the bright side. I was so upset yesterday that I tried to just remain calm and continue watering and I started grooming my collection of ferns and realize that this basket of Pyrrosia lingua ‘Alabama Gold’ has revealed its lovely transition. The so-called “Tongue Ferns” are a favorite group of mine. Would you like to see and learn more?
