When your work friend becomes your garden tour buddy, horticultural guru and all around dear friend and moves across the ocean, you shed a little tear. Jason, you are such a gem of a human and I can’t wait to see how you leave your mark on the horticulture community in your new home. I will cherish all the wisdom and joy you’ve brought to my life over the years and can’t wait to hear about all the fantastic things you will make happen in your new corner of the world!

Always a good idea to get inspired by the beauties at the Conservatory.

Finally got to visit local legend Don Brooks’ ethereal garden this past weekend on Northwest Horticultural Society tour. Don was the longtime head gardener of Kubota Garden in Seattle for so many years. His garden is a wonder of one of kind specimens, fabulous pruning, amazing vignettes of everyday materials crafted into brilliance and a little bit of magic. So happy to be inspired by Don’s bit of wonder.

Made a long awaited trip to Pat Riehls Stumpery garden on Vashon. Pat’s husband lovingly cares for the garden still and he gave us a personal tour and chatted us up. This garden is such a labor of love, full of special plants and vignettes. I was so in awe of the giant Mexican pine I forgot to take a photo of it ! The tree ferns and crazy tall scheffleras all look so perfect under the trees on Vashon.

So happy to have clients that let me come and poke about their gardens long after I’ve left the scene, and make suggestions for how to get it to look its best. Some bare spots here and there may not be that big a deal, but if you’ve spent a bunch of hard earned pennies to make your garden look good, I want it to shine! We will make a few divisions and a few additions this fall, as a hot dry summer is in store for us this year.

I was able to go to Yellow Island earlier this month to see the wildflowers, and it was just as fantabulous as I had hoped. Took my non plant loving sis with me, and she oohed and aahed at all the wildflowers with the rest of us. There’s something about being immersed in beauty that creates awe in us all. Everyone on our boat was like a giddy schoolchild, so happy to wander through the fields of blooms. Photos really don’t do a place like this justice.

It was fitting that we visited just days after Nigel Dunnett passed away, a reminder of all he worked so hard to create in his career, capturing that bit of magic that nature provides.

I’m still such a fan of this Twinwall fence & simple entrance to the garden we designed a while back. The jasmine is creeping up the frame over the gate and the down light glows at night just enough to cast a warm glow. My first time using Twinwall in this way, would do it again with a few tweaks. And yes, we ignored the trash and didn’t hide it. Everyone’s hunky dory about the ease of access without a screen hiding it away.

Thanks to the most chill, patient clients ever. I met these folks before I got sick in the fall of 2024, and they’ve been nothing but kind and patient while I was laid up for way too long. But spring is here and the new garden is in just in time for warm sunny days and nights by the fire. Here’s to summer fun for this family!
