Turns out being your own boss just means you work twice as hard LOL. Wouldnโ€™t trade it for the world though!

Today we built out the wall to accomodate our new everedge shower pan, finished the final detail cut out of the vintage floor tile, and poured our supportive mortar bed. While the product doesnโ€™t specifically call for a mortar bed, we like to be a little extra. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Excited to make some real progress on this project now that the plumbing is all taken care of. ๐Ÿ˜

๐ŸŒˆ Happy Pride Month!

Pride means something different to everyone. Growing up q***r, I often felt like I didnโ€™t fit in and I spent a lot of years feeling like I was on the outside looking in, wondering where I belonged. I didnโ€™t see many people like me in the spaces I occupied, and I certainly didnโ€™t see many people like me in construction.

So I built my own place.

When I founded La Matriarca Woodworkings, I wanted more than a successful business. I wanted to create a company where people felt welcome, respected, and valued for exactly who they are and exactly where they are. A place where q***r people could show up as themselves. A place where women in the trades could thrive. A place where families of all kinds felt comfortable inviting us into their homes.

Today, Iโ€™m proud that weโ€™ve employed multiple LGBTQ+ team members, worked with q***r families throughout our community, and helped create spaces where people can make memories, gather with loved ones, and simply be themselves.

Representation matters. Belonging matters.

To every young q***r person who feels like they donโ€™t fit the mold: sometimes the answer isnโ€™t finding a seat at the table. Sometimes itโ€™s building your own table.

Onto our second bathroom remodel before we hit deck season running!

We removed old plaster, layers of plywood and styrofoam? (Tf) And old lath to prep our structure for GoBoard installation. Of course, none of the studs are plumb or level so weโ€™ll be adding in some supplemental framework to accommodate and level everything out prior to tile install.

This bathroom will be getting a classic white subway tile shower with a niche, grab bars and shower pan for easy entry w brushed nickel fixtures. Additionally weโ€™re excited to install the clients accent Hummingbird wallpaper. ๐Ÿฆ Stay tuned!

If youโ€™re a dude and gonna be a hater because we exist- go complain somewhere else. ๐Ÿ˜˜

Summer is here! Decks are dirty! And 50-60% of existing decks in Seattle arenโ€™t up to current code!

Seattleโ€™s code requirements have tightened over time, especially around structural safety, seismic considerations, and moisture management in the PNW climate. We canโ€™t tell you how many decks weโ€™ve inspected that are just downright SCARY.

Donโ€™t hire just any Joe Schmoe to build your deck. Take the time to check out a companies reviews, credibility and their work. And if youโ€™re so inclined, support women!

Our team is trained through Simpson-Strong Tie- one of the leading exterior building manufacturers in the market- on joist spans, beam loads and overall deck safety.

Some after shots of our largest to date bathroom remodel. Fully customized with oak shelving throughout and a custom vanity countertop.

We do still need to stain the vanity cabinet but are waiting for our client to decide on color. ๐Ÿ˜Š

We worked with them to offer material options within the color palette they chose to work with while they were out of town. What a surprise to come back to!

Frances and I met a few years back at an art market and instantly connected as friends. Sheโ€™s also a resin artist and the inspiration behind this Japanese inspired bathroom! I love the pieces she picked out including a super unique shell shaped sink for the vanity. I added in a few pops of live edge shelving with black highlights to match the hardware in the bathroom and meticulously planned the shower shape out. Cutting the shell out of 2โ€ thick Oak required a new saw but hey, it was time. Shout out to your jigsaw

I am proud of this one and the TWO person girl team that pulled it off.

We learned a lot. Now weโ€™re onto a smaller, much more simple bathroom flip- followed byโ€ฆโ€ฆ.DECK SEASON!
