A soil blend is a lot like a recipe, where the ingredients are just as important as how they’re balanced. Different mixes change how the soil drains, supports roots and performs for the project.

Find us at the Evergreen State Fair!! Step through our display and see where food scraps go after the green bin. Follow the journey from leftovers, to compost that goes back into our gardens, farms and schools 🎡🌱

Yesterday’s scraps grow what’s next. What goes in the fair’s green bins comes to our Everett facility, keeping them out of the landfill! Find us at the Ag Display, across from the red gate and grandstands Evergreen State Fair Park

A few new things are growing around our yards 🌱 We partnered with Sound Sustainable Farms to set up garden beds at each of our locations with a mix of starts like squash, strawberries, peppers and tomatoes

Next time you’re stopping by for soil, compost or other materials check out how these little garden spaces fill in through the rest of the season!

Which of our soil products do our employees use at home? We’re so glad you asked! This yard project started on a whim and grows fuller and better each season. Three years later it’s now a certified wildlife habitat through the National Wildlife Federation

Here’s what works so well for them: “I first used lawn soil to build up my beds and help with drainage. Then I put down a few inches of booster and planted directly into it. I then spread the awesome mulch over the top. Each fall I spread a layer of compost to revitalize the soil and then follow up with a layer of mulch in the Spring, if needed. The soil added is all Cedar Grove which I buy at the Tacoma Yard or get at Home Depot. I borrow a friends trailer and goes over there to fill it up”

🐝 The NWF allows any outdoor site to be certified if it provides four essentials of food, water, cover and places to raise young. Learn more at nwf.com

Creating a more sustainable future takes collaboration. We're proud to work alongside partners like Recology King County to help keep valuable materials out of landfills and put them back to work through recycling and composting!

Thank you, Cedar Grove, for having us! It’s always incredible to see firsthand how our communities’ food, yard waste, and food-soiled paper are transformed through the composting process.

A quick peel can make a big difference! Produce stickers are small, but add up quickly into one of the most common contaminants in finished compost. Taking a few seconds to remove them helps keep contamination out of the process from the start.

Pro tip: Peel stickers off when you unpack your groceries. It's much easier than trying to later when produce is soft or spoiled 🍎🍌🫑
