More glowing finish work is being completed, on our Capitol Hill Remodel + DADU. Custom case and base details are getting installed, keeping our carpenters nice and busy. We are proud to complete all of our carpentry work, in-house. That makes the installation of finishing details even more satisfying for the carpenters who have been there throughout all phases of the project.

Today we're spotlighting The Wayland Mill — the brainchild of Yasuaki Saito. This Japanese-inspired all-day café and restaurant is earning some well-deserved national buzz, landing a nomination as a 2026 James Beard semi-finalist and a spot on Bon Appétit's 2026 Best New Restaurants list.

Architect Weber Thompson drew on the idea of human connection to nature and community, weaving in Japanese influence through clean lines and a minimalist palette. Open sightlines, warm wood, and bespoke details come together for a cozy, welcoming feel. A feel echoed by Yasu's famous hospitality.

Navigating the mass timber construction of Northlake Commons — an AIA Award-winning structure in its own right — took extensive coordination between our resourceful build team and the architects. Even the sections of timber and concrete cut away for HVAC and utility routing got a second life, repurposed and crafted into tabletops by our talented shop team.

It's a great example of what happens when thoughtful design, exceptional craftsmanship and incredible culinary vision converge. Have you stopped by The Wayland Mill yet? Let us know what you think!

We're happy to show off more interior pictures of our Capitol Hill Remodel + DADU. With the all of the beautiful wood floors installed, the interior finishes can really take off. Trim, cabinets and doors are all on deck next. This is when the client's vision finally becomes truly tangible.
