As summer approaches, we’re reminded that architecture should enhance connections: connection to light, to our surroundings, and to the rhythms of the seasons.

In this lakeside home, expansive windows and doors draw the outdoors in, framing water and mountain views while filling each space with natural light. The result is a home that feels open, airy, and ready for summer living.

Inspired by the rigor and proportion of classical Georgian design, the interiors are reinterpreted for a more relaxed, contemporary lifestyle. Open in plan yet rich in detail, the architecture balances timeless moldings with modern art, furnishings, and lighting, creating spaces that feel both elevated and inviting.

Last weekend marked the opening of boating season in Seattle, an annual reminder that summer on the water is just around the corner.

For this waterfront home, our clients envisioned a relaxed, carefree lakeside retreat for their family. Inspired by the shingle‑style “summer cottages” of the Eastern Seaboard, we designed a home that feels both timeless and perfectly suited to its setting. Long banks of French doors, covered porches, and thoughtful orientation fill the house with light and a strong connection to the outdoors - creating spaces made for gathering, unwinding, and enjoying long summer days by the water.
