With just over a decade of intense experience, mentorship and leadership with architecture firms in Chicago and Seattle, Mike and Grace founded Schemata Workshop, Inc. We are now sixteen studio members, each with unique strengths and who are dedicated to the collective success of the practice and improving the livability of our communities. Schemata Workshop has been selected amongst fourteen other firms for the City of Seattle's ADUniverse 2.0 expanded gallery of pre-approved ADU and middle housing designs. We are so proud to be included in an amazing program to promote homeownership in the region!

These modular fourplex townhomes prioritize residential equity by bringing 1,026 SF of thoughtfully designed space to the middle housing market, with open-concept living, abundant natural light, and healthy cross-ventilation throughout. These homes maintain a welcoming pedestrian scale that seamlessly integrates into existing neighborhoods.

We are proud to share that Skyway Resource Center earned a Citation from the 2026 AIA Washington Civic Design Awards!

The project transforms a former 1959 neighborhood bank into a permanent community investment shaped through more than a decade of community advocacy, planning, and community-led design.

This recognition highlights the power of community-driven design and the role architecture can play in advancing local ownership, investment, and long-term neighborhood resilience.

The Union Street Pedestrian Bridge+Stair+Elevator was a close collaboration among design team members with the City of Seattle and Artist Nori Sato. We very intentionally limited the material palette, which is supported by the lighting design by Dark|Light to establish the project as a key wayfinding element on the Central Waterfront.

This Juneteenth, Schemata Workshop wants to call attention to the work of the Nehemiah Initiative.

Historically as the center of Black community and self-determination, the Nehemiah Initiative is helping Black churches reclaim their activist role by redeveloping their properties to build generational wealth and resist displacement. The initiative was founded by Donald King, Bishop Garry L. Tyson, and Aaron Fairchild.
