Schemata Workshop, inc Empowering communities through architecture and design. as a firm of four at the end of 2004.

With just over a decade of intense experience, mentorship and leadership with architecture firms in Chicago and Seattle, Mike and Grace founded Schemata Workshop, Inc. We are now sixteen studio members, each with unique strengths and who are dedicated to the collective success of the practice and improving the livability of our communities. We think that architecture is exciting, and this is reflected in our studio environment.

The Union Street Pedestrian Bridge+Stair+Elevator was a close collaboration among design team members with the City of Seattle and Artist Nori Sato. We very intentionally limited the material palette, which is supported by the lighting design by Dark|Light to establish the project as a key wayfinding element on the Central Waterfront.

This Juneteenth, Schemata Workshop wants to call attention to the work of the Nehemiah Initiative.

Historically as the center of Black community and self-determination, the Nehemiah Initiative is helping Black churches reclaim their activist role by redeveloping their properties to build generational wealth and resist displacement. The initiative was founded by Donald King, Bishop Garry L. Tyson, and Aaron Fairchild.
Find them at their website: https://www.nehemiahhousing.org/

The Skyway Resource Center reflects the resilience and power of the Skyway community. By preserving and upgrading the bank, Skyway transformed the loss of a community service into a community resource space, securing it for their future.

Since 2013 Schemata Workshop has partnered with Skyway Coalition and the Skyway community to bring this project to life.

This Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we're celebrating Schemata Workshop designer Kriti Chaudhry working to create powerful spaces for community.

Kriti is a strong designer who brings a passion for community-based projects, as well as diversity and inclusion. This can be clearly seen in her work on both the Family Resource Center for Open Doors for Multicultural Families (ODMF) and on the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank.

Both projects help build community and create a strong sense of place. The resource center will allow ODMF staff to provide programming for advocacy, self-sufficiency, recreation and general family support. The Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank will be a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space that provides important supportive resources, weaving into the Issaquah Community.

As we take a breath after the Cohousing Summit: Seattle last weekend, we want to thank National Cohousing Alliance for organizing such an incredible event. We spent three days with over 250 people excited about building community and connection. For the majority of the attendees this was their first ever cohousing conference, and there were more BIPOC, q***r, trans, and younger attendees than at any previous summit. We are so grateful to be part of this growing movement of people striving to advance livability, community, and social justice through community-rooted housing. Thanks so much to Amy McKenna from Windermere Real Estate for helping us get the word out.

Principals Grace Kim and Mike Mariano served as conference co-chairs and led some important conversations throughout the Summit. Great to hang out with some of the other cohousing professionals from Caddis Collaborative , Studio Co+hab , and CoHousing Solutions .

And a huge thank you to our clients Senait Brown from House Of Mkeka , Bob Collins from Habitat For Humanity of East Jefferson County , and Kathleen Hosfeld from Homestead CLT for your incredible participation at the Summit. We are glad you could join us to share your knowledge about building community, affordability, and reclaiming power.
