Studio Meng Strazzara just held our fourth annual photography contest! Our theme this year was WATER, and it’s no surprise we got some fantastic entries. The rules are simple: no editing beyond zoom and crop, and the photo had to be taken during the prior four weeks. Entries were ranked by their peers during our Friday Happy Hour, and the top two winners received cash prizes. Which photo would you have voted for?

SMS joined Puyallup School District for some (chilly) sign-waving yesterday, encouraging residents to vote yes on the upcoming school bond. This money is vital for the District's ability to repair, replace, and renovate aging schools and adapt to growing enrollment.

From parking deck to roof in just over two months at our Madison Valley project with The Velmeir Companies. With challenging site conditions and a tight timeline, SMS and the whole design team worked with Redhawk Group and Mitsui Home Canada to utilize panelized wall, floor, roof, and stair systems in lieu of traditional stick-framing as originally designed. This system was not chosen until well into construction, but we successfully matched both the permitted drawings and design intent within the manufacturing requirements of each panel. Additional coordination up front from the whole team paid off with savings on time, money, and labor on the back end due to the speed at which the framing was installed. The Owl Apartments in Northgate is nearly complete - the artwork and lobby furniture is in, and it looks great. Located right by the Northgate Mall, Owl has two beautiful, outdoor courtyards for residents to enjoy, plus a roof deck, dog run, fitness room, entertainment room, and bike maintenance room.

Peter Kirk Elementary School is located in Kirkland, WA and serves over 600 students in a cheerful, well-lit learning environment. Even when the sky is filled with clouds, these classrooms are flooded with daylight. A bright color scheme and large open areas create a welcoming and inviting environment for both kids and adults.
