A pollinator garden needs more than flowers—it needs variety.

Recent research is reinforcing the importance of planting a diverse mix of flowering plants. Different plants provide different pollen resources, so one large sweep of a single species may not support pollinators as completely as a thoughtfully planned combination.

A successful pollinator planting should include:

🌸 Flowers from early spring through fall
🌿 A mix of native perennials, shrubs and trees
🐝 Plants from several different botanical families
🌾 Grasses and seed heads that provide habitat beyond bloom season

The result is a landscape that is beautiful, layered and far more useful to the wildlife that depends on it.

Thoughtful planting starts with thoughtful design.

A beautiful patio isn’t much use if it’s too hot to enjoy.

Trees do more than frame a view. Thoughtfully placed shade can make seating areas, walkways and outdoor gathering spaces more comfortable—and more inviting.

Good landscape design considers where that shade will fall, how large the tree will grow, and has the space its roots need to thrive. It’s about choosing the right tree for the right place, with tomorrow’s landscape in mind.

Let’s design an outdoor space you’ll love spending time in.

🌞 OFFICIAL NOTICE: Summer Reported for Duty at 4:24 AM

Within minutes, it had:

☀️ Turned the thermostat up
🌿 Added 12 inches to plants that were “supposed to stay small”
🌸 Put every hydrangea into full performance mode
🦅 Made the birds even louder at 5AM
💧 Created a daily watering schedule nobody asked for

As landscape designers, we’d like to remind Summer that “low maintenance” is still part of the plan.

Happy Summer Solstice from Fox-Jackson Designs!

Here’s to beautiful gardens, buzzing pollinators, and clients who don’t point at a 20-foot tree and ask, “Will this stay that size forever?” 😆

✂️ Pruning Lilacs: Timing Is Everything! The time is NOW🌸

Love those fragrant lilac blooms? Here’s the biggest pruning mistake homeowners make:

🚫 Don’t prune lilacs in late summer, fall, or early spring.

Lilacs set next year’s flower buds shortly after they finish blooming. If you prune too late, you’ll be cutting off next year’s flowers before they ever have a chance to bloom.

✅ The best time to prune lilacs is immediately after they finish flowering.

While you’re at it:
• Remove spent flower clusters
• Cut out dead or damaged branches
• Thin a few older stems at the base to improve air circulation and rejuvenate the shrub

A little pruning at the right time means bigger, better blooms next spring.

🌸 Your future self will thank you when the lilacs put on a show next year!
