MANSON WINS BEST DIGITAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN AWARD

Last week, Manson’s Marketing Team received the Best Digital Media Campaign Award at the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Seattle’s 2026 Reign Awards for its 2025 National Tradesmen Month campaign in Seattle, WA.

The campaign highlighted the skilled men and women who build, maintain, and protect America’s marine infrastructure through a flagship tribute video and a series of Career Compass blog posts focused on specific trades.

Together, these elements created a cohesive month-long campaign that celebrated the diversity, dedication, and humanity of Manson’s workforce. By educating audiences about marine construction careers and highlighting the pride behind the work, the campaign elevated the trades and reinforced their essential role in shaping America’s waterways and coastal communities.

The SMPS Seattle Reign Awards recognize firms in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry whose marketing assets and campaigns advance their firms’ goals and deliver impactful messages.

Manson’s newest 15,000-cubic-yard (CY) self-propelled trailing suction hopper dredge, FREDERICK PAUP, is already making a meaningful impact on coastal communities in the United States of America. As a Jones Act-qualified vessel, it reflects the strength of American shipbuilding, supports U.S. maritime jobs, and reinforces the nation’s ability to maintain critical waterways and protect infrastructure with U.S.-built, U.S.-flagged, and U.S.-crewed equipment.

Built in Texas and U.S.-crewed, the FREDERICK PAUP is designed to support the long-term maintenance of federal navigation channels and public shorelines. Most recently, the vessel dredged and placed more than one million cubic yards of sand along the Gulf shoreline, including Pensacola Beach and Santa Rosa Island in Escambia County, Florida. The work helps protect a region that welcomes more than two million visitors each year, supports approximately 8,000 local jobs, and serves as home to the world-famous Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy flight demonstration team.

Following its work in Florida, the FREDERICK PAUP will continue serving communities and commerce in Mobile, Alabama, and along the Mississippi River in Louisiana. Its ongoing deployment underscores the essential role Jones Act dredges play in keeping America’s ports, waterways, and coastlines safe, navigable, and economically strong.

Crew of Manson’s Hopper Dredge NEWPORT Rescues Swimmers Near Ship Island

On Sunday, May 17, at 12:45 p.m., NEWPORT Able Seaman Nate Horrocks was on deck when he spotted two people in the water waving for help near the Gulfport Channel in Gulfport, Mississippi. He immediately alerted the rest of the NEWPORT crew, and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) was notified.

Mate Dale Sweeney and Assistant Engineer Ian Nichols quickly launched the vessel’s rescue boat, ROGUE, and headed toward the swimmers.

After reaching the two young girls and bringing them safely aboard, Dale and Ian learned there was a third person missing from their group. They quickly located the final swimmer and successfully brought them to safety as well.

All three swimmers were aboard NEWPORT by 12:55 p.m. and were later transferred safely to the USCG. The group took the Ferry Service to Ship Island and had entered the water for a swim before currents swept them toward the channel.

Great work by the NEWPORT crew, especially Nate Horrocks, Dale Sweeney, and Ian Nichols.

The Oakland Inner & Outer Harbor FY25 project is complete!

Manson’s derrick barge (DB) NJORD mobilized to the San Francisco Bay Area to begin dredging operations at the Oakland Seaport’s Outer Harbor in January. After finishing up at the Outer Harbor, the DB NJORD transitioned to the Inner Harbor in early March and completed the project in early May with zero safety incidents.

An important project for the USACE San Francisco District, the dredge work maintains the appropriate depth for both Inner and Outer Harbor navigation channels that transport 99% of Northern California's goods through the Port of Oakland and trade routes to the Pacific.

Manson's P-224 Causeway, Boat Channel and Turning Basin & P-226 Ammunition Pier project was awarded the Gold-Level John L. Martin Partnering Project of the Year Award by the International Partnering Institute (IPI).

This award recognizes teams who distinguish themselves by implementing IPI’s best practices of collaborative partnership that fosters high trust and success on projects nationwide.

The P-224 Causeway, Boat Channel and Turning Basin & P-226 Ammunition Pier involved the creation of a new public navigation channel in Anaheim Bay to separate Navy traffic from civilian boat traffic, providing secure and safe passage for both parties. In addition to the new navigation channel, the project involved the replacement of an aging ammunition pier, the construction of waterfront support facilities and a causeway, including a truck turnaround area at the wharf.

This past weekend, Manson's Seattle office laced up their running shoes to participate in the Beat the Bridge for Breakthrough T1D 5k walk to raise awareness for type 1 diabetes and fund ongoing research to find a cure. The event was in support of Manson employee Mike Walker's daughter, Marley, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in late 2024.

Coined "Marley's Manson Marchers," the group joined thousands of participants at the University of Washington's Husky Stadium and made way toward University Bridge to complete the walk. To commemorate the event, Marley created friendship bracelets for each Marcher.

Last month, Manson’s NorCal Piledriver Joe Karinen and his team claimed the top prize at the Piledriving Contractors Association (PDCA) Pacific Coast Chapter’s 15th Annual Scholarship Shoot, held in Birds Landing, CA.

Over 130 contestants from construction firms and small businesses across California spent the morning shooting clay pigeons and targets. After the awards ceremony, participants enjoyed an afternoon of networking over a BBQ lunch, alongside a prize raffle.

The event helps fund the PDCA Pacific Coast Scholarship Award, which provides educational and training support for high school and college students pursuing careers in piledriving throughout the Pacific Coast region. Notably, one student—who was mentored by Manson Norcal Project Sponsor Kelly Blythe—was awarded the scholarship in 2024, and an incoming Manson intern has applied for the scholarship for 2026.

“This is not only a fun event, but organizations in the construction industry come together to contribute funds that directly benefit the future of piledriving,” Kelly says.

A Quarter Century of Dedication

Congratulations to NEWPORT Cook Stanley Madison on reaching an impressive milestone of 25 years with the organization. Earlier this week, Stanley was presented with his 25-year Manson watch.

Gulf & East Coast Hopper Dredge Manager Juan Valdez shared the following remarks, "Almost 20 years ago, Senior Vice President and Dredging Manager Mike Warwick gave us young field engineers a motivational book called ‘The Fred Factor.’ The book is about a mailman named Fred that goes above and beyond in his job duties, and it illustrates how every company would be prosperous with employees like Fred. Our 'Fred' runs the galley of the NEWPORT, and his name is Stanley “Stan” Madison.

Stan is the only cook that will get on the radio to ask how many breakfast plates to send to Manson's survey crew. Army Corps inspectors have fought over who gets assigned to the NEWPORT and who gets to experience Stan’s meatballs, po' boys, and other fine dining cuisines.”

Manson is set to launch Construction Safety Week 2026 with this year’s theme: “All in Together.” This initiative supports an industry-wide commitment to fostering trust among coworkers, partners, and clients, ensuring that every task is approached collaboratively and safely.

The theme centers around three core pillars—Recognize, Respond, and Respect—offering a unified call to action. These principles guide the creation of intentional frameworks for handling high-energy, high-hazard work and are designed to prevent serious injuries and fatalities. The goal is for everyone to return home just as they arrived onsite: safe and healthy.

By embracing these pillars, Manson’s workforce will be equipped with the tools necessary to communicate openly, identify and address safety concerns, share ideas for improvement, and collaborate to solve problems—ensuring the safety of everyone on projects nationwide.
