Happy Holiday Season!

Just a few holiday safety reminders-

Do not use light strings or extension cords with frayed or exposed wiring.

Follow the manufacturer's recommendations when connecting multiple strands of lights end to end.

Do not leave your Christmas lights on during the night or when no one is at home.

Always supervise young children around all electric decorations.

Check your living Christmas tree daily for water and signs of becoming dried out. Never power lights on a brittle, dry tree.

May you and yours be blessed with good health and joy!

Laurie

To Our Friends & Neighbors,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and for you in these dangerous and troubling times.

Below is useful information regarding the current wildfires, including safety tips and links to current information about road closures, air quality and fire locations. The information was gathered and provided by Sen. Ron Wyden and his staff and was sent out in an email I received earlier today.

* First, if your family is advised to evacuate, please do so safely and quickly. Get organized and make a plan for your loved ones and pets. And, of course, if you must travel, keep aware of road closures from the Oregon Department of Transportation, www.tripcheck.com. Most importantly, listen to and take the advice of your local authorities to keep you — and them — safe.
* Many communities are not in immediate danger from ongoing fires, but are still enduring hazardous air quality. Please keep up with the latest information on air quality from the Oregon DEQ's OregonAIR app, www.oregon.gov/deq, get information on the locations of ongoing fires, https://experieince.arcgis.com, and learn more about health and air quality from the Oregon Health Authority.
* Multnomah County has a useful omnibus fact sheet on smoke, wildfires, and keeping your family safe. Please visit it, bookmark it, and read up, https://multco.us/air-quality
* Finally, the office of Oregon's Governor Kate Brown has put together a resource page with helpful information to keep you and your loved ones safe, https://wildfire.oregon.gov

Stay safe,

Laurie & IEI Staff & Crew

The TripCheck website provides roadside camera images and detailed information about Oregon road traffic congestion, incidents, weather conditions, services and commercial vehicle restrictions and registration.

Hello,

August! Bright, warm days & weeks of summer left. Aaah. 🌞 What a great time to take a few minutes and plan ahead for, well . . . not summer. While it’s still dry and warm enough to have the windows open (providing that extra air circulation recommend by the CDC), schedule the needed repairs and upgrades to your home or business.

Now is the best time to check your smoke detectors and add or replace non functioning smoke detectors, as well as switches, outlets, GFCI outlets, ceiling fans and lighting.

Before our long days of sunlight diminish, do you have sufficient outdoor lighting? Are your house or building numbers lit so that the address can easily be identified for deliveries and possible emergency responders? Do you need pathway lighting by steps? By garbage bins? Or around pet areas? Is the lighting by your door sufficient for you to see to put the key in the door?

Landscape lighting can add curb appeal and extend your outdoor living space into the autumn. Adding the convenience of a timer or a photocell to control the lighting will save energy & can extend the life of the light bulb and fixture.

Can’t wait to string up those Christmas lights? Having weather proof outlets installed in key locations around your property add convenience and possibilities, while eliminating dragging messy extension cords out and then attempting to hide them in the bushes.

Enjoy these wonderful warm weeks of summer, and do give some thought to making the beautiful seasons to come as comfortable and as enjoyable.

We are here to help!

Be safe & be well.

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

Have you checked your smoke detectors yet this year?
The NFPA recommends monthly testing & cleaning, & replacing the battery every 6 months.
* Safety first! Use only a sturdy ladder or step stool to access your smoke detectors.
* Your detector may be a combination smoke & CO2 detector. Testing a combination detector is the same as testing a smoke detector. Simply press the small lit button on the face of the detector. If operating properly, you will hear a sharp, loud beep!
* Replacing the battery requires taking the detector off of the mounting hardware by turning to the left or right. Your detector may be hard wired, so do not disconnect it from the wiring. You should be able to access the battery to replace it without taking it down. Replace the battery, & push & turn the smoke detector back into place.
* Push the test button to hear the loud, sharp beep! & make sure the light is on.

* *Clean your detector monthly by gently dusting around the sides with a soft broom or duster.

WARNING SIGNS:
* A chirping sound indicates that either the battery needs replacing or the detector is at the end of its functionality & needs replacing.
* If the alarm sounds & won’t stop when there is not a fire, the detector needs to be replaced immediately.
* A blinking light on the detector also indicates the detector is at the end of its functionality & needs replacing.

SMOKE DETECTORS HAVE A MAXIMUM LIFE OF 10 YEARS! The manufacture’s date on your smoke detector should appear on the back, usually next to the battery housing.

Smoke detectors save lives! Never disconnect a smoke detector without replacing it!

For more information on smoke detectors, look for information from credible sources, such as NFPA, The National Fire Safety Council, or First Alert.

Be safe & be well!
