It happened again today - while fishing a wire down a bathroom wall, I reached my hand in through the hole where a switch box used to be and found it - another floating splice. No Box, No Cover, and certainly No Access if something were ever to go wrong.

To be safe (and legal), every splice or wire junction is required to happen inside a proper electrical box with a cover, and be accessible (sometimes that means a box with blank cover).

We re-arranged several other wires to make room, and moved the splice into an electrical box.

For your next project, if you're not sure on the electrical portion just "Call the Good Guys!" - let US keep the electrical safe and up to code while you spend your creative DIY energy on tape and texture for the drywall!

Over the past couple years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on a small advisory board working to develop a new electrician program at Bismarck State College.

Last week, the final hurdle was cleared — the program was approved by the North Dakota State Electrical Board, and the very first class of future electricians is officially enrolled to start this fall.

Proud to have played a small part in building something that will shape the next generation of our trade right here in North Dakota. Hats off to BSC and everyone involved in making this happen!
