I was pruning this Pine the other day and noticed this split where these 2 limbs fused. The biology of trees is pretty cool! Many species don't fuse like this at all but others will. Nature is where it is at! 🌲

Bluffs Tree Service called for some help taking down this Spruce tree. It's hard to see in the pics but there was a lot of wind damage and broken limbs up towards the top, even though it was in a backyard and surrounded by other deciduous trees. No room for a bucket truck so I put on my saddle & spikes and made the climb. And, the near perfect weather helps me to fully appreciate my profession! 😉

I worked this Hackberry tree over today. It was a fairly involved climb since it was a decent sized backyard tree with just a standard gate for access with no alley. So, definitely no bucket truck and in order to get to all the dead and also prune it off of all the utility lines no lift would be sufficient either. However, that means I was dialed in most of the day so forgot (or was too busy) for more pics. Some of this should/could have been done by the utilities and is technically their responsibility. However, with the limited access I mentioned and because most have no climbers, they understandably struggle to keep up on the maintenance in this type of situation. I did also speak with them to get their blessing prior as well. 🤙

Here is the stump from the large crab apple I removed recently. It was struggling! And, you can see in these pics of the trunk section the problems it was having with splitting and rot. This was most likely a well timed removal because of the size of the tree, the hazards close to it and the extent of the issues! Luckily we will not know the "what could have been" of it and all is well. 😁

Here are the pics from the large crab apple removal. This is the one from a few posts back with the mushrooms and splits. I took a few pics of the white rot I mentioned in that prior post and then a few through the day as it came down. Sad for the customers to lose a mature backyard tree but with the issues it had, they are making the right call.

Started the first part of a removal today of a very large backyard Apple tree that had a partial failure the other day. This one will be interesting so I will try to remember to take pics. Although, I thought I had taken a picture of the white rot I was seeing in it but now I can't find it! 🤔 Anyhow, these are pics of the splitting that has been going on for some time and the mushrooms that are around the base. The mushrooms indicate that organic matter is decomposing, which in this case, it's the trees roots! This trifecta of splitting main stems, roots rotting and the white rot in the trunk make it a challenge because these factors make the wood much more unpredictable while cutting/rigging and there is an increase of potential for failure. Of course it's a backyard tree with limited access so I will be climbing it as well. 😁 I likes me a good challenge, I do! 🤙 It is sad for the customer to lose the tree for sure. But, it definitely is time.

Here is a before and after of 1 of the 2 Ash trees I trimmed for a wonderful customer! It was just the larger dead wood that she wanted gone to keep them looking decent to better enjoy, while we all wait for the Emerald Ash Borer to arrive in our area. It doesn't look like much in the pics but you would not believe the amount of dead I pruned out of this tree especially!
