How to Winterize Your Stock Tank Pool
Winterizing your stock tank pool is essential to protect it from freezing temperatures and ensure its longevity. Follow these steps to keep your pool and equipment in great condition through the winter months.
1. Clean the Pool
   •   Remove debris: Skim out leaves, dirt, or any other debris using a pool skimmer.
   •   Scrub the surface: Use a soft brush to scrub the inside walls and bottom of the tank to remove algae or buildup. Ensure you do not use a wire brush, as it can damage the surface of the tank.
2. Prepare Equipment
   •   Turn the pump off. Disconnect at the pump: Disconnect the hoses at the pump (not at the pool) to prevent freezing water from damaging the pump and hoses. You want to ensure there’s not water in the line.
   •   Drain the sand filter: Locate the drain plug at the bottom of the sand filter. Unscrew it to allow all water to drain completely from the filter. This prevents water from freezing inside the system and causing damage.
   •   Drain the hoses: Ensure all hoses are thoroughly drained to prevent freezing and cracking.
   •   Prepare the heater (if applicable):
      •   If you have a propane heater and won’t use it over the winter, turn off the propane supply to prevent any issues.
      •   Electric heaters should be turned off if not in use
3. Inspect for Damage
   •   Check the stock tank for any cracks, rust, or weak spots that might worsen over the winter. Address these issues before covering the pool.
4. Keep It Filled and Winterized
   •   Add a floating device: Place a plastic bottle or pool pillow in the water to absorb expansion from ice formation.
   •   Use a pool cover: Cover the pool securely to prevent debris from falling in.
5. Monitor the Tank
   •   Check periodically during the winter to ensure the cover is intact and the water is clean and ice-free.
6. Prepare for Spring
   •   Before reusing in the warmer months, thoroughly clean and inspect the tank, pump, sand filter, heater, and hoses to ensure everything is in working order.
This guide ensures your stock tank pool is protected through winter and ready for use when the weather warms up!
