Founded in 2011, and inspired by years of experience in the coastal area of the southeastern United States, C. Tharpe Engineering, LLC provides innovative, practical solutions for a wide range of commercial, industrial, and residential projects. We are located in Savannah, Georgia, just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and 125 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina, an area of highly concentrate

d seismic potential. These geographic features create a unique and challenging environment in which to practice structural engineering. Having dealt with the challenges of seismic and wind engineering for more than 6 years in this area, our firm has the knowledge and experience necessary to provide our clients with safe, cost-effective, and constructable designs that will withstand all environmental constraints. We have extensive experience in the design of buildings utilizing structural steel, reinforced concrete, concrete masonry, cold-formed steel, precast concrete, insulating concrete form systems, and timber. In addition to our design capabilities, our firm has extensive experience in the assessment and structural evaluation of existing structures, many of which in our area are more than 200 years old. We are proud to have been involved with many of the area’s most notable adaptive reuse projects and historic preservation efforts.

Progress continues at one of Savannah’s most recognizable historic buildings. The Manger Building, originally completed in 1913 as the Savannah Hotel, is being transformed into Recess Hotel & Club, giving this historic landmark a new chapter in downtown Savannah.

These images capture the building’s original character, its current progress, and the vision for its future.

Tharpe Engineering Group is providing structural engineering for the project, working alongside LS3P ASSOCIATES LTD. and Choate Construction Company to help bring this historic renovation to life.

Modern commercial projects demand more than functionality. They require thoughtful engineering that supports both performance and design.

Tharpe Engineering Group was proud to provide structural engineering services for Audi Hilton Head, a 26,000 SF state-of-the-art addition to the Peacock Auto Mall in Hardeeville, SC. The structure features conventional structural steel with long-span trusses spanning the showroom and service areas, creating the open, modern spaces that define the Audi brand experience.

The project also presented unique geotechnical challenges; poor soil conditions required an auger cast pile and cast-in-place concrete grade beam foundation to mitigate the effects of liquefaction during a seismic event.

We're grateful to have partnered with an incredible project team to help bring this vision to life.

We’re still riding the high from abcofga’s Excellence in Construction Awards, where Municipal Grand took home an Award of Merit alongside the two other wins for our team. Three in one night. What an honor.

This adaptive reuse project transformed a 1960s-era banking landmark in Savannah’s Downtown Historic District into Municipal Grand, a high-end hospitality destination for Midnight Auteur Hotels, all while preserving one of the city’s most significant examples of International Style architecture. From a new rooftop pool to a woven-in egress stair to modern MEP systems integrated within an aging concrete frame, nearly every piece of this build meant reinforcing and reimagining what was already there.

Grateful doesn’t begin to cover it. None of this happens without our incredible design and trade partners, who brought the precision this award recognizes. Thank you.

Hospitality projects are about creating experiences. Through these experiences, spaces emerge that feel welcoming, memorable, and seamlessly designed from the ground up.

Tharpe Engineering Group provided structural design, construction documentation, and construction administration for the Perry Lane Hotel. This award-winning, high-end boutique hotel has a distinctly Southern design vernacular in Savannah's Historic District and is beloved by locals and visitors alike, as is clear to see in the videos they've produced

Our scope included a post-tensioned concrete system to maximize floor-to-floor heights, an internal lateral force-resisting system utilizing elevator and stair cores, temporary shoring for a full-height cellar level, and structural support for both the rooftop pool and steel-framed event space.

Proud to have been part of a project that has become a recognizable part of Savannah's downtown landscape.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the horrific earthquake in Venezuela. We are teaming up with local architects who have ties to those affected to collect dry food and medical supplies for the month of July.

Exciting progress at SCAD's newest student housing community.

Tharpe Engineering Group is providing structural engineering for this project, which will serve as a new gateway to the Canal District when it opens in Fall 2026. It's been a great collaboration with an outstanding project team, and we're looking forward to seeing this space become home for generations of SCAD - The University for Creative Careers students.
