Every horse deserves exceptional care!

Rooted in Saratoga’s rich equestrian tradition, this new facility for Rood & Riddle was designed to support our loved horses, owners, and caregivers who make this community so special. Replacing an aging stall barn, the new building brings together new modern horse stalls, offices and staff training spaces in a warm, welcoming environment inspired by the character of the existing campus.

Nestled between two residences in Austin’s Travis Heights neighborhood, this home was shaped by the unique characteristics of its site. A sloping lot and a heritage live oak influenced everything from the home’s three-story form to its placement, views, and connection to the outdoors. The result is a residence that feels rooted in its surroundings, with warm materials, expansive glass, and spaces that frame the oak and the landscape beyond.

As framing nears completion, the proportions, spaces, and views that shaped the design are becoming more apparent. It’s always satisfying to see a project move from drawings and three-dimensional computer models to something you can walk through and experience in person.

Merit Award – The Roost | Lake Placid, New York

Set along the shore of Mirror Lake in Lake Placid, The Roost transforms a constrained collection of aging structures into a thoughtfully designed lakeside retreat. The project balances privacy, durability, and connection to the landscape through carefully framed lake and mountain views, a restrained material palette, and the reuse of the historic icehouse. Designed within strict site and regulatory limitations, the residence responds to its dense surroundings while creating a quiet, light-filled home that feels connected to its Adirondack setting.

Some seek dramatic views and connection to the outdoors, others prioritize gathering and conversation, and many want a balance of both. Our role is to understand those goals and work together to create a space that feels uniquely suited to the people who will use it.

A great team deserves time to celebrate together. We traded our desks for a day at the Saratoga Race Course, enjoying great company, plenty of laughs, and a little friendly competition. Days like these remind us that the strongest teams are built both in and out of the office.

Located on the shores of Lake Goerge’s Dunham’s Bay, Tall Timbers reimagines a cherished 1930s seasonal lakeside cottage as a year-round family retreat while preserving its timeless Adirondack character. Through thoughtful additions, adaptive reuse, enhanced accessibility, and high-performance all-electric design, the project strengthens the connection between home and landscape, creating a sustainable retreat that will serve generations to come.

“A place for the moments between. Designed as a companion to the main residence, this recreation building extends the experience of the property beyond the home itself. Exposed timber framing, natural stone, and views to the lake create a comfortable place to gather year-round.
The project began with a small, dated lakeside cottage. Through a thoughtful renovation and expansion of the original home, along with the addition of this recreation building, the property evolved into a collection of spaces that remain closely connected to the landscape and the water’s edge.”
