Thanks to Home & Design Magazine Suncoast for featuring our Manatee River project in your recent issue!

We loved working on this house! Its owners were immediately captivated by the century-old home, which has views of the Manatee River and Tampa Bay. They wanted to preserve the home's historic street presence, but envisioned envisioned a contemporary transformation of the waterfront side with expansive clerestory glass, a kitchen with clean-lined modern cabinetry, efficient storage and plenty of space for cooking and entertaining.

The existing three-inch oak flooring was refinished to a warm medium brown, complementing the exposed brick wall discovered during renovation. The owner whitewashed the brick by hand, creating a soft contrast that highlights the clay's subtle pink tones. Vertical book-matched slab cabinetry in natural wood veneer with integrated matte-black Gola pulls defines the minimalist aesthetic the owners wanted, and a textured quartz countertop with a two-inch mitered edge anchors the 14-foot island, which includes a 48-inch sink with two faucets. The same quartz extends up the hood wall as a backsplash, and a nearby wet bar features a second sink, clear-cube ice maker and microwave. A tall pantry wall offers lots of storage, and a home-office station is seamlessly integrated next to the refrigerator.

A huge loss for the Sarasota community and the international architecture community at large.

Carl Abbott Architect was the last surviving member of the venerable Sarasota School of Architecture and the creator of some of the most beautiful parts of our built environment. He will be deeply missed.

This week, Sarasota lost a true architectural giant.

Carl Abbott was the last surviving member of the original Sarasota School of Architecture, with groundbreaking designs that were built with a deep reverence for nature, light and movement.

It’s that time of the year when paint companies and color consultancies begin naming their “colors of the year” for 2027—and Pittsburgh Paints’ Glidden brand is leading the pack, choosing “Artifact,” a soothing blue, as its pick for 2027.

Described as a “calm, smoky blue that feels like a reset for your whole space—no renovation chaos needed,” the color feels like it could fit easily into a kitchen, living room or spa. Glidden says the color is part of its “call to recalibrate,” a response to homeowners’ move towards choosing colors with meaning. It also allows homeowners to move away from cool grays as their neutral of color of choice, an overwhelming color trend in recent years.

🔦 Project spotlight: Bradenton kitchen!

This newly remodeled waterfront home transformed a classic early-2000s Mediterranean-style home into a clean-lined, contemporary residence tailored to the new owners’ needs. The original architect and builder for made this modern vision a reality, and the interior landscape for the spacious new interior space reflects it, with cabinetry that complements the open concept.

The kitchen, with its oversized island, serves as a focal point for entertainment and meal planning and prep. The linear design integrates the refrigerator, freezer, w**e storage, beverage center, ice maker, microwave, dishwashers, and hood ventilation seamlessly into the cabinetry façades, and the finishes tastefully blend gloss neutral polymers with vertical book-matched textures. Mission: accomplished!
