🔥 California just approved new Zone 0 wildfire landscaping rules for homeowners.
The focus is the first 5 feet around your home—the area most vulnerable to wind-blown embers during a wildfire.
The new rules focus on reducing combustible materials such as wood mulch, firewood, dead vegetation, leaves, and other debris near structures, while encouraging ember-resistant materials like gravel, pavers, and concrete.
The regulations are expected to begin taking effect as early as September 2026 in designated high-fire-risk areas, with existing homeowners given additional time to make required changes.
