Pamela Burton & Company is excited to share how we have been advancing the goals of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Climate & Biodiversity Action Plan this year.

Our team is working to create change in school yards across Los Angeles by incorporating designs that increase shade, reduce heat, enhance biodiversity, conserve stormwater, and create opportunities for hands-on learning.
PB&Co is adding trees to increase shade, using Cool Coat™ paving to reduce heat-island effects, and designing for additional greening to support biodiversity and introduce learning opportunities. We are also incorporating permeable paving, LID planters, infiltration galleries, bioswales, drywells, and modular wetlands to capture, clean, and conserve stormwater, helping protect and recharge the aquifer. In addition, we are designing edible gardens and orchards throughout play yards to provide learning opportunities for the community.

We’re honored to share that our UC San Diego Jacobs Medical Center project has been featured in the latest issue of Landscape Architect & Specifier News.

As lead Landscape Architect, PB&Co developed a landscape framework grounded in San Diego’s canyon - mesa ecology, creating a connected network of restorative outdoor spaces that support healing, movement, and community. Broad campus walks, native planting, an olive grove, rooftop terraces, protected courtyards, and gathering spaces work together to seamlessly integrate the medical campus with its surrounding landscape while advancing long-term sustainability.

We’re thrilled to share that West LA VA Campus Buildings 156 & 157 have been selected for a 2026 Preservation Design Award from the California Preservation Foundation!

In collaboration with KFA Architecture, we developed the landscape design for Buildings 156 & 157, part of PB&Co’s broader work across the West Los Angeles VA Campus.

The project features outdoor seating and dining areas, thoughtfully designed courtyards, bocce ball and shuffleboard courts, and a vegetable garden. These spaces foster connection among residents, support recreation, and invite everyday gathering. 🌿

We’re excited to highlight our work at Roundbarn Ranch in Santa Ynez. Guided by the “Horse-Human Connection”, Roundbarn Ranch hosts Multi-Day Equine Experiences, Free Community Collaborations, and Corporate Retreats & Workshops guided by the Horse-Human Connection. You can visit Roundbarn to explore the powerful lessons horses can teach us about being human. 🐴 

Working with the owners, we developed a Master Plan for the 73-acre ranch, overseeing the implementation of the landscape throughout the grounds where guests gather, ride and stay. The landscape is thoughtfully reimagined as a series of outdoor spaces planted with a mix of drought tolerant and native plants, arranged within beds of gravel mulch. The spaces between support both learning and gathering, reinforcing a connection to the land. 🍃
