Thanks to for featuring our story.
Before I started Design Scapes Inc. in 2020, I spent years out on job sites building other designers’ plans. I saw firsthand that what looks good on paper doesn’t always work once construction starts. Slopes, drainage, soil conditions, access. You have to think through all of it.
That experience is why we handle both design and construction at DSI. The same team plans the project and builds it, so we can work through those details from the beginning instead of figuring them out halfway through construction.
I'm proud of the team we've built and grateful to the homeowners who trust us with their outdoor spaces.

The retaining wall is going up at our Westchester project.
With the concrete footing complete, we moved into block installation and reinforcement, followed by waterproofing along the back of the wall before backfilling.

Big progress at our Westchester project.
With excavation complete, rebar, drainage, and sleeves in place, we’re pouring the concrete foundation for the new retaining wall. Once the wall is built, waterproofed, and backfilled, we’ll be able to create the level backyard space needed for the new flagstone patio and surrounding artificial turf.

A strong wall starts below ground.
Today we worked on the footing, excavating and preparing the foundation that will support the new wall. Getting the depth, alignment, and base right at this stage is what sets everything up for a solid, long-lasting build.

Progress continues on this backyard remodel.

Today’s work includes trenching for drainage and gas lines, getting all the important underground infrastructure in place before we move on to the next stage.

Making some final adjustments to this backyard remodel based on our latest meeting with the client.
More lighting is being added, and we’re fine-tuning the patio to create a seamless indoor-outdoor entertaining space that feels just as functional in the evening as it does during the day.

A quick look at the latest progress from our Westchester project.

Things are moving along nicely as we continue working through the different stages of the front and backyard transformation. Stay tuned for more updates.

The pool repair is complete and everything is cleaned up and ready for the next phase.

We now have the forms in place for the new coping and patio. Instead of using pre-made coping pieces, we’re casting them on site so we can closely match the existing concrete and create a more seamless transition into the new pour.

A little extra work up front makes a big difference in the finished result.

Demo is officially underway on our El Segundo project. 👷‍♂️
During removal, we uncovered an old, out-of-use septic tank that wasn’t expected. Before moving forward, we coordinated with the city to determine the proper way to fill and secure it safely.
Unexpected conditions are part of remodeling. The important part is handling them correctly before the new landscape starts taking shape.
