One of the biggest landscape mistakes we see isn't poor maintenance...
It's planting the wrong tree in the wrong location.
A tree that thrives near Butterfly Beach may struggle on a hot, south-facing hillside in Mission Canyon.
Before planting a new tree, consider:
☀️ Sun exposure
💧 Water availability
🌊 Coastal influence
🪨 Soil conditions
📏 Mature size
Choosing the right species today can prevent years of frustration, maintenance, and unnecessary expense.

Here's one of the biggest watering misconceptions we see...

Many homeowners water their mature trees the same way they water their lawn.

But mature trees have very different needs.

Instead of shallow, frequent watering, most established trees benefit from deep, infrequent watering that encourages stronger root systems and improves drought tolerance.

Making this simple adjustment can have a big impact on the long-term health of your trees.

This is one of the most common calls we receive.

The surprising reality is that many olive trees showing dieback, thinning foliage, or dead branches can often remain valuable landscape assets for years with proper management.

Olive decline may be related to:
💧 Drought stress

🚿 Irrigation problems
✂️ Lack of maintenance
🦠 Fungal and Bacterial Disease pressure

The key is identifying the underlying cause before making the decision to remove the tree.

At Beaver Arborist, our goal is to preserve trees whenever practical and safe.
