🚨 If you've already fertilized your lawn this spring, you may have just wasted your money (and done more damage than good).

Here's the truth most lawn care companies won't tell you:
Applying fertilizer too early, before your soil temps hit 45°F and your grass is actively growing, means the roots can't absorb it. It just sits there, gets washed away by rain, feeds the w**ds instead, and can actually stress your turf right when it's trying to wake up.

The "early bird gets the worm" rule does NOT apply to lawn fertilization.
Before you put anything down, you need:
✅ Soil temps consistently at 45°F+
✅ Grass actively greening and growing (not just out of dormancy)
✅ A plan that matches the right product to YOUR grass type and condition

Skip those steps and you're not feeding your lawn; you're just donating money to the runoff.

The Shaw and Ward families in Wakefield lost their homes to fires last week. Our hearts go out to both of them, and while we know this is a small gesture compared to what they're going through, we wanted to do something. Here's what we came up with.

For one full day, we're offering tick spray services to anyone in the greater Wakefield area. Instead of paying us, you donate directly to their GoFundMe pages. You get your yard protected, two families get a little more support.

In the Lakes Region, our native soils are naturally high in phosphorus. That's just part of living here. But when there's nothing between your lawn and the water, no roots, no plants, no buffer, every rain event moves that soil and phosphorus directly into the lake. It adds up quietly, season after season.

A native plant buffer along your shoreline is one of the most effective things you can do for water quality. It doesn't have to mean giving up your waterfront. It means being thoughtful about what's planted there.

The Acton-Wakefield Watersheds organization is running a great program this season for owners on our area lakes. You may even qualify for up to $1,000 toward plants through their Shoreline Vegetated Buffer Cost-Share Program. Worth looking into: www.awwatersheds.org
