Hi Friends,
We are facing a pretty terrible possibility and we need a little help from you to save our office building. Here's the issue:
Golden Gate Transit made a decision about 25 years ago to build the San Rafael Transit station on top of the existing Railroad right of way, and now the Sonoma Marin Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Train will travel right though their mistake!
To fix this self-created disaster they have 4 proposed solutions. One of their ideas is to demolish our office and our neighbor's office, both beautiful Queen Anne Victorians that have graced San Rafael since 1895 (that's 123 years!), so they can rearrange the transit center to sprawl over some three city blocks.
There are three other solutions that do not have this terrible outcome, two are better utilization of their space, and space that is currently under the freeway overpass.
Please help us convince Golden Gate Transit that their idea of tearing down our beautiful buildings so they can "uglify" the entrance to San Rafael is a horrible solution. We and our neighbor would love your help. It would be great if you can. We hope public protest at the prospect of tearing down beautiful buildings for a bus stop will help preserve our property for future generations. If nothing else, you can e-mail a complaint about the "4th Street Gateway Concept" to [email protected] and say that this solution that will destroy beautiful historic buildings, make the entry to San Rafael ugly, and is simply a bad idea.
