Before you choose a backsplash, there are a lot of other decisions to consider.

How will it work with the countertops? The cabinetry? The other finishes throughout the kitchen? And will everything still feel cohesive once it’s installed?

An interior designer can help you look beyond one selection at a time and guide you through the decisions that bring the entire space together.

Because you shouldn’t have to figure out every detail on your own.

Planning a kitchen renovation? Let’s find what works for your space.

A beautiful kitchen is only part of the equation. The real question is: does it work for the people living in it?

For this home, Penny chose to maximize concealed, full-height cabinetry—not simply to add more storage, but because it made sense for how the homeowners would actually use their kitchen day to day.

What needs to be within reach? What can be tucked away? How do they cook, gather, and move through the space?

Those decisions shape the design just as much as the finishes do.
Your home should be designed around the way you live.

Planning a renovation? Let’s talk about your space.

Lighting isn’t only about making a space brighter, it’s part of what brings the entire design together. ✨

Throughout this San Mateo home, each lighting choice was thoughtfully incorporated to support how the space functions, highlight key details, and create the right atmosphere from room to room.

From statement fixtures to subtle task lighting, every layer plays a role in the finished design.

Which lighting detail catches your eye?

Before starting an interior design project, it’s easy to jump straight to colors, furniture, and finishes—but at Elements in Design, we like to start with how you actually live in the space.

What isn’t working right now? How do you want the space to feel? And what needs to function better?

Answering these questions helps create a space that isn’t just beautiful, but thoughtful, functional, and designed around you.

✨ Save these 3 questions for your next home project. And when you’re ready to get started, give us a call!

One solution that worked beautifully in my own home was layering function with flexibility.

I wanted sun protection for the sliding doors and transom window without draperies getting in the way, so I added roller shades for practical light control and stationary sheer panels to soften the room. Behind the sheers, I incorporated a layer of orange for warmth—and when I’m ready for a new color, it can easily be changed!

It’s a simple idea homeowners can use to create a softer, more finished look without sacrificing function. Would you try this in your home? Save this idea for your next design project!

A kitchen reimagined for brighter, more connected living. ✨

Thoughtful space planning transformed this room into a welcoming place to cook, gather, and entertain. Expanded storage, a generous central island, statement lighting, and professional-style appliances bring beauty and function together—while crisp cabinetry and richly veined stone give the space a fresh, timeless character.

Every detail was considered around how the homeowners wanted to live in their new kitchen.

The homeowners weren’t asking for a prettier bathroom—they wanted calmer mornings.

A soothing neutral palette, soft lighting, natural textures, and a sculptural soaking tub transformed this bathroom into a peaceful retreat.

Because great design isn’t just about how a space looks—it’s about how it supports the way you live.

What would make your morning routine feel a little calmer? ✨

What makes a kitchen truly work? Besides beautiful finishes, it’s thoughtful design.

For this award-winning kitchen, three details made all the difference: an efficient layout, beautifully integrated storage, and a seamless connection between cooking and entertaining.

The result is a space that feels polished, welcoming, and effortless to live in—worthy of its feature in Luxe Magazine.
