A heads-up for our San Luis Obispo community: Beginning as soon as October 12, Patricia Drive between Craig Way and Cerro Romauldo Avenue is expected to close for up to two months while the City completes emergency stormwater repairs. The project includes replacing a deteriorated culvert beneath the roadway and making roadway, sidewalk, and creek improvements to help reduce erosion and improve resilience ahead of winter.

For Stormwater Awareness Week, we’re highlighting how thoughtful design and multidisciplinary collaboration help manage rainfall and protect our communities.

What happens when the rain hits the road? At the Avila Beach Drive/US 101 Roundabout, the Park & Ride’s TRUEGRID permeable paving system allows rainfall to infiltrate through the parking surface instead of becoming runoff. It is one example of how smart infrastructure can help keep water moving in the right direction, both above and below the surface. Check out the video for closer look at the installation!

For National Roundabouts Week, we’re highlighting two Wallace Group projects that demonstrate how thoughtful transportation design can improve safety and traffic circulation in the communities we serve.

The Avila Beach Drive/US 101 Interchange (Avila Beach) and Boronda Road Corridor (Salinas) are examples of the transportation projects our team helps bring from planning and design through implementation.

Roadway design doesn’t stop at the edge of the pavement. These projects considered drainage and stormwater, bringing multiple engineering disciplines together to develop solutions that work as a complete system.

This week, we’ll keep following that connection from the road to the storm drain and, ultimately, to the people behind the work.

It’s a big week at Wallace Group! We’re celebrating National Roundabouts Week and Storm Water Awareness Week, and looking ahead to HR Professional Day on September 26. While they may seem separate, they all come together every day in the work we do. Many of our transportation projects bring together roadway design, roundabouts, drainage, and stormwater solutions to create infrastructure that is safer, more efficient, and better suited for the communities we serve. Behind every project is a team of talented engineers and professionals working across disciplines, and behind that team is an incredible Human Resources department helping Wallace Group bring together the people who make it all possible. Yesterday, Wallace Group was proud to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Bob Jones Pathway Gap Closure Project at the historic Octagon Barn, the future trailhead for this long-awaited connection. It was especially fitting to celebrate this milestone at the Octagon Barn, where the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County has helped support the development of the trailhead. With construction now underway on the first segment connecting the Octagon Barn to Cloverridge Lane, and a future segment planned to continue south to the existing Ontario Road trailhead, the community is another step closer to a continuous, multi-modal connection between San Luis Obispo and Avila Beach. Wallace Group’s Transportation Department is honored to lead this multidisciplinary effort and proud to work alongside the many agencies, partners, and community advocates whose teamwork and dedication have moved this vision forward. We’re grateful to be part of the team bringing this long-awaited community connection to life. See you on the trail!

A sincere thank you to our clients, team members, and their families who joined us for our annual Blues Baseball VIP event. We had a fantastic evening connecting outside of the workplace, enjoying great company, and cheering on the Blues as they battled their way to an exciting extra-innings victory! We are proud to celebrate Alex Cass on earning her Professional Engineer license in Civil Engineering! A Cal Poly graduate, Alex has made meaningful contributions including grant writing for disadvantaged communities, sewer master planning for public agencies, and a variety of Water Resources projects. She is a valued member of the Water Resources team and an active leader within the company, serving on committees that support fun, charitable giving, and sustainability efforts.
