raw concrete, warm wood, and a landscape that looks like another planet. this project sits at the edge of the sea of cortez — where the desert meets the water and the architecture has no choice but to respond to both. exposed concrete ceilings, handcrafted tile, canopied beds open to the breeze, and outdoor showers wrapped in rich wood. every detail feels intentional, unhurried, and deeply connected to its place on earth.

this is what it looks like when design doesn’t compete with nature, it converses with it.

just wrapped: emerald bay.

the newest geoff sumich project drops you straight into the details — a sculptural spiral staircase in warm wood, a kitchen anchored by a linear pendant fixture and book-matched stone, and a primary suite that opens straight onto the pacific through a wall of glass.

set within one of laguna beach’s most private gated enclaves, this home reads as pure romantic modernism: clean glass volumes tucked into the hillside, surrounded by laguna’s classic spanish and coastal architecture, yet unmistakably its own. every material choice — stone, wood, water — feels intentional, and every room is oriented toward the same thing: that view.

this is what happens when a designer gets a site this good and doesn’t waste a single square foot of it.

this one leans into mass and texture: sweeping curved travertine walls, deep vertical fins that cut light into the courtyards, and a warm wood ceiling that grounds every major room. the entry sequence alone tells the story — a koi pond bridge leads past an olive tree motor court, under a cantilevered glass canopy, into a home built like a private gallery.

inside, sculptural figures line a sunlit corridor, a fireside lounge opens straight onto the trees, and bedrooms slide open completely to their own private decks. it’s romantic modernism pushed toward something more monumental.
