A Danville deck project starts with decisions. In 27 days, we built a deck that handles hot summers and rainy winters. Treated wood and composite materials work differently in Bay Area climate—treated lumber ages, composites fade slower but cost more upfront.

The site had uneven terrain and existing landscaping. Deck layout follows the ground, not the other way around. Build around what's already there, and you keep costs down while the deck fits the yard.

Planning comes first: materials, slope, where to tie into the house, local codes, and your budget. Our Danville project story walks through real choices. Questions? Call (650) 749-7436. Quartz Construction & Remodeling, San Jose. CSLB Lic. #1003436.

A second story doesn't just sit on the roofline. Its weight travels down through the new floor, the walls below it, and into the foundation. If your existing footings and walls were sized for one story, they may need reinforcement before the new floor can be built.

A structural engineer inspects your foundation and framing first—that's where decisions get made. In San Jose, any second-story addition requires a full plan check with structural engineering stamps and Title 24 energy compliance plans before the city issues a permit.

Adding a floor isn't quick, but it's the right way. Questions? Call (650) 749-7436. Quartz Construction & Remodeling, San Jose. CSLB Lic. #1003436.

Before deciding whether to repair or replace your deck, walk through a structural checklist.

Start at the ledger board—where the deck connects to your house. If the flashing has failed or the connection is loose, water damage spreads fast. Check your joists and beams for rot, decay or soft spots. Look at fasteners: are nails pulling out or bolts rusting? Damaged flashing underneath the deck is a red flag—water pools there and eats away wood and metal.

Our structural checklist covers what to inspect and what each finding means for repair vs. replacement. Got questions about your deck? Call (650) 749-7436. Quartz Construction & Remodeling, San Jose. CSLB Lic. #1003436.

Planning a kitchen remodel? The order of work decides how smoothly it goes.

A few decisions have deadlines that sit before demolition: appliance specs (they set the plumbing, gas and electrical rough-in), cabinet orders (lead times can run for weeks), and whether the project needs a minor or full permit. Countertops are templated after cabinets are set, so they can't be ordered early.

Our new guide walks through the sequence from design and permit through demolition, rough-in, inspections, cabinets, counters and the final punch list. Questions about your own kitchen? Call (650) 749-7436.

Thinking about a remodel in an older home? The first question isn't which tile to pick. It's what's inside the walls.

If your house was built before the late 1970s, ceilings, old vinyl flooring, patching compound and paint may contain asbestos or lead. Testing before demolition, knowing which Air District notices apply, and having a plan for the debris keeps a one-day tear-out from becoming a stop-work.

We put the full checklist, the rules in plain English and the step-by-step sequence in a new guide (link below). Questions about your own project? Call (650) 749-7436.
