We’re excited to invite the Minds of Light community to the Emotional Skill Gap Summit, September 29–October 2, 2026!

This 100% virtual event brings together diverse speakers and perspectives for meaningful conversations about emotional intelligence and the skills that help us communicate, connect, build relationships, navigate challenges, and thrive in everyday life.

At Minds of Light, we know that emotional and social skills can be learned, practiced, and strengthened. This summit is about bringing people together to explore those skills through real conversations, practical insights, and different perspectives.

Whether you’re neurodivergent, a family member, educator, coach, nonprofit or community leader, employer, or simply someone interested in better understanding emotions and human connection, we would love to have you join us.

Have you ever been told you’re “too sensitive”?

Maybe you feel things deeply.
Maybe criticism sticks with you longer than other people think it should.

Maybe you notice a change in someone’s voice before anyone else does.

Or maybe you become overwhelmed and need time before you can even figure out what you’re feeling.

None of those things automatically mean someone lacks emotional intelligence.

In fact, emotional intelligence is much bigger than being calm, socially polished, or knowing exactly what to say.

It’s learning to recognize:
What am I feeling right now?
What triggered that feeling?
What does my body do when I’m becoming overwhelmed?
Do I need to respond right now, or do I need time to process?

What might the other person be experiencing?
And how can I communicate what I need while still respecting what they need?

For autistic and neurodivergent people, this can be especially important because emotions, sensory overload, communication differences, and social expectations can sometimes collide all at once.

That’s why we need to stop confusing emotional intelligence with emotional conformity.

Someone can communicate differently and still be emotionally intelligent.

Someone can need extra processing time and still be emotionally intelligent.

Someone can struggle to identify an emotion and still learn emotional intelligence.

Someone can experience emotions intensely without those emotions being “wrong.”

At Minds of Light, we believe these skills can be developed without asking someone to hide who they are.
Because emotional intelligence shouldn't teach people how to fit into someone else's version of normal.
It should help them understand themselves, understand others, communicate more effectively, and build stronger relationships.

Have you ever been misunderstood because of the way you experience or express emotions? What do you wish people understood about you?

Family and friends, Minds of Light is celebrating our four-year anniversary, and I am so proud of how far we have come!

What began as a vision to help neurodivergent and autistic adults feel understood, supported, and connected has grown into a community that continues to create meaningful opportunities for personal growth.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are preparing to launch our new coaching program for neurodivergent and autistic adults. Our coaching will focus on social skills, emotional awareness, communication, self-advocacy, confidence, and building meaningful connections.

We are currently looking for:

• Neurodivergent and autistic adults, age 18 and older, who may benefit from personalized coaching and support

• Compassionate coaches with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, education, or a related field who would be interested in joining our program

If you or someone you know may be interested, please send me a private message. Even if this opportunity is not for you, sharing this post may help us reach someone who has been looking for exactly this kind of support.

Four years ago, Minds of Light started with a mission. Today, we are expanding that mission and preparing to help even more people recognize their strengths and build brighter futures.

Who do you know who may want to participate in our coaching program or become one of our coaches?

I wanted to share a FREE EVENT coming up that’s specifically designed for autistic teens and
young adults.

On May 4th, there’s an interactive workshop at the (IRC) Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino
focused on emotional awareness, communication, and building confidence.

It’s for ages 15+ (younger teens are welcome), and it’s a really supportive, low-pressure
environment where participants can learn how to better understand their emotions, express
themselves, and connect with others.

This is being hosted by Minds of Light, which is a neurodivergent-led nonprofit focused on
helping individuals build real-world confidence, communication skills, and connection.

There will also be dinner, social time, and space to meet others in the community.
Check-in: 5:30 PM
Workshop: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM (may end a little early)
